robertmun
Hi, I have a 20g Uniquarium that has a built-in chamber for bioballs. What shoud I put in there in place of the bioballs? Live sand and rock and perhaps caulerpa? Anything else I need? Robert Link to comment
Raise
nothing. Unless you're set on a little fuge, nothing would work just fine. Bioballs= nitrate producers in the long run. Link to comment
zizmans
I'd say doing a refugium, if possible would be your best bet. There are alot of pics in DIY. My research has led me to believe bio-balls are a dated way filtration. If I was going to start over refugium=papa like Link to comment
Xwhite
I wouldn't say they're dated. They, like undergravel filters, work great for fish-only setups with extremely regular water changes. But, that kind of filtration isn't needed in a reef aquarium. John Link to comment
tropfrog
You say that bioballs produce nitrate. But they cant produce any nitrate unless you dont have nitrite to convert. And we all agree on that nitrate is better than nitrite, dont we??? I think its OK as long as you change water and wash the bioballs once in a while. Sorry for my bad english. Magnus Link to comment
