Cultivated Reef

One more silly question

I live next to the North Sea and I'm wondering if I could just go scoop up some sand and rocks to start my tank with? I want a warm water reef and anything I scoop up will be cold water. So I'm thinking it wouldn't work.

But what about people living in warmer waters can they?

Thanks ahead of time

that's a good point. sushigirl was living in scotland for a time and said she collected coldwater anemones and critters when she was at the shore (rocky) coast.

i would think you would experience die-off as you brought the tank to tropical temps tho. a cold water 'reef' is pretty cool too. if you're by the shore with fishermen, you might be able to snag some pretty cool deepwater stuff that they would otherwise toss away. give 'em a couple of krones(?). ;)

deep water anemones are sweet! (i've only known from pictures tho) at least you won't need expensive lighting.

i wonder how the natural 'rock' formations look up there? ???
