55G overflow design

I'm mid building a 55G reef, presently we're fabricating the acrylic sump.

 

Question I have on the next step is how big should the overflow be..

How deep should the bottom of the teeth be from the top of the tank.

 

How far from the top of the tank should the drain be drilled in the rear glass.

 

I know depth of overflow can affect how much noise it creates.

Are there any tricks to the measurements?

Also,

 

the plumbing, 1" down is what I was planning on using.

I am using a mag7, 7/8" return on it.

 

what size plumbing would I want to use for the return.
