The Propagator
I used a small hot glue gun today on some gorgonia cuttings to see how well it would work. I core'ed one and left the other two flesh on. I used three seperates types of gorgs. (keep in mind this pic was taken a couple hours after they were hot glued) Pics: Link to comment
mahi mahi boy
Interesting.... Does the part at the base usually die after it has smothered by an adhesive, any adhesive? Link to comment
clifford513
It will be interesting to see if the base will grow over the glue. Link to comment

The Propagator
LOL!!!!! They are candycane skeletons I got with some LR rubble. The covered tissue will die. But I am betting they wont come out. They were wedged in by the glue its self after it hardend. I'll post a few pics of them open. Link to comment
yardboy
According to Delbeek and Sprung, that's a valid method of attachment. What procedure did you use? Did you cool the glue quickly when you stuck the frag on, say with a drop of water? I've never used hot glue so don't know how quickly it hardens. Link to comment

The Propagator
I just shot the glue on them let them cool a few seconds. Worked the glue around them with my fingers then stuck them in the tank. Link to comment
sambo123
next time scrape 1/4'' of flesh around the base, then add hot glue to a hole in the LR rubble to attach, I think it works better because the tissue doesnt have to die, dissenigrate, and then regrow It usually takes 2-3 weeks for my gorg frags to grow over the base Link to comment
Sharpie129
So I'm assuming hot glue is reef safe? You just can't really apply it underwater... does it have to harden all the way first or is there no chance of fumes or reactions etc... Link to comment
mahi mahi boy
I'd hope TP wouldn't put that beautiful 100gal in harms way, that would be a crime against nature. That glue is just plastic.... a thermoplastic. I see other people using it....I guess we'll find out shortly. Link to comment
The Propagator
Non-toxic, non bleaching, aquarium safe. sambo123. The purpose of this was an experiment. Two with flesh on and one with no flesh. You apply the glue dry, not in the tank. Then you waitn a few seconds for it to set up ( it cools very quickly.) Then shape it with your fingers around the gorgonian snugly and add more glue if you need it. The stick it back in the tank and it hardens like a rock around it. Link to comment
sambo123
sry missed that also what kind of gorg is that in pic 2? Do you have any frags of it you would sell? Link to comment
