directional
I just set up a 2.5 minibow and I have approx 5-6lbs of lr and 3lbs of sand in the tank. I want to know what type of live stock I can put in the tank I was thinking a sexy shrimp and a catalina goby? Does anyone know if this is a good idea or not? Or will the fish die? What do you think I can stock in here without any trouble. thanks. Link to comment

Argent
my understanding is that sexy shrimp need to be kept only in odd numbers (1,3, 5 etc) a green banded goby would probably work better than the cold water one. Link to comment

Do green / red banded / clown gobies swim or do they just dwell at the bottom? Do you think it is safe to do the shrimp with the goby or will it be to much of a bio load for the tank? Would I be able to do a clown goby instead of a green banded? You guys are making it sound like its okay but I want to make sure before I go ahead and order away =).. I was thinking of ordering from www.liveaquaria.com anyone have any cheaper / better places that they have used? Link to comment
SaVeThEeELs
there are at least 4 species ive looked at 3 probably called the "yellow clown" or citron -gobiodon citrinus-the biggest...6.6 cm -gobiodon atrangulatus...3.5 cm -gobiodon okinawae....3.5 cm and the green clown goby -gobiodon histrio....3.5 cm all should be ok in a 2.5... or you could try one of the neon gobys -elacatinus figaro....yellow or golden -elacatinus oceanops....blue both get about 3.5-5 cm and they are cheap Link to comment

For a cleanup crew I was thinking of Cleanup crew: 1 Red Legged Crab (Scarlet Reef Crab) $2.99 ea 2 Blue Leg Dwarf Crabs .99 ea 2-3 Nassarius Snails 1.99 ea 1 Astraea / Turbo Snail 1.99 ea How does that sound? jg7
Porcelain crabs work well in small tanks. I have one in my 5 gallon and it's doing fine. Link to comment

I figured it would be a little to big and wont clean my glass for me and it may nip at coral / goby .. I think I would be better w/ a shrimp and stick with the small crab Link to comment
Argent
Porcelain crabs are filter feeders and won't pick on your fish etc. as far as your clean up crew that sounds fine you can always add more if you find you need to. Link to comment

Argent.. A green / yellow clown goby would be good with the sexy shrimp / pistol shrimp right? I like how the pistol shrimp pairs with the goby but I am looking for attraction ( hence sexy shrimp ) it stands out more to the eye. Do gobies swim or do they just dwell on the bottom? Noone seemed to answer :[ Link to comment

directional
I just got my 20w light in the mail and me and my brother just did the DIY hood mod... we made our own version which seems to work 10x better and no waiting for expoy and alot more customizable if you have a problem down the line. I will post pictures once I find my digital camera if you guys want to give it a shot. All in all it came out sweet... Now its time to wait for the cycle ( which it may not even because 5lbs of the rock came from my tank ) I am going to test the ammonia right now and then once I am complete I will be ordering my live stock.
