MaxiMiniNem
Was just playing around and experimenting, I don't require large amount's of plug's and have done cement plug's before but was not happy with the result's, plus I can't find white cement in my area. I wanted something I can do anytime, and that looked natural on top of my sand bed, with next no curing time. So I finally came up with some fairly natural looking frag disk's imo They cost around $1 to make, if you are not using a huge bottle of crazy glue where you get a large amount fairly cheap. The good thing about this is that I think you can use any color gravel as long as it's a certain size grain. You can control the shape, size, thickness, texture. I'll be playing around with experimenting with a cheaper way as well, that will give the same result's. such as heavy plastic casino chip's with no metal's etc, and possibly dominoes etc. Material: Wax paper, liquid crazy glue, maybe a ketchup wax paper cup and dry aragonite/gravel If anyone is interested I can post a pic of my finished result and the rest of the info later? MaxiMiniNem
First thing tomorrow, afternoon, I promise. Waiting for the light to fill the room, for a better pic, these artificial light's just don't do them justice at the moment. Going to attempt image stacking for the second time, to get some decent depth of field, to show texture. Here's my first attempt with image stacking: Next will be with these frag disc's/plugs, hopefully it will show the texture. Link to comment
mmcguffi
hey Ive been looking to image stacking a little bit so if you wanted to give a tutorial on that too I wouldnt protest Link to comment
MaxiMiniNem
I'll send you a video that helped me a lot, along with a few link's. After that, if you have any question's, I don't mind helping. Here's a picture of the crazy glued aragonite disk, before I started to add aragonite on top. Next photo will be when the disc is finished and what it looks like on my sand bed. I needed to put a dime on top of the frag plug, to spot it with my camera's lcd display. Will be putting some of these on the finish ones in a bit Link to comment

MaxiMiniNem
DIY Liquid Crazy Glue Frag Disk: Be careful not to do too many in one night with out the proper ventilation, can irritate the lung's,nose, eye's, along with being painful I'm sure, if you squirt it in your eye. Also The glue is also very strong, so if you get aragonite on your finger with glue it can be hard to get off, and probably painful to some. The glue can get hot under the wax paper, so don't handle it too much. Here is a pic of the liquid crazy glue I used, it was bought from dollarrama here in ontario canada, they come as a 4 pack of 1G small tubes for $1, company is adhaero. 1 Lay wax paper on a flat surface. 2 Put dry aragonite in a fast food ketchup cup. 3 Pour aragonite onto the wax paper into a approx 2 penny width diameter anthill shape, then flatten it slightly with your finger. 4 Have around 4 gram's of glue ready for use, doesn't hurt to have an extra one, just in case. 5 Going to need to be really fast at this part. Start in the center and drop in increment's of around 2-4 drop's each time, soaking one spot, then moving directly to the next spot to soak, continue evenly dropping and moving until 2G of glue is gone and you evenly filled around 70% of the disk in a circle shape, from the center of the disk. 6 Don't stop dripping really fast, but now drip 1G around the last 30% outside edge, until the rest of the disk is soaked. Then give it a quick final 1G coat of glue with increment's of 1 drop, starting from the middle and evenly coating the whole thing 100%. 7 Wait 5-10 seconds and tilt the wax paper so that the excess glue slides off the paper, discard the excess glue. 8 Wait around 20-30 second's more for the disc to harden. 9 Slowly and carefully lift up the paper and pry the outside edges off, then slowly rip the paper off the rest of the disc. 10 Turn the disk upside down to check for some spot's you might of missed, if so then apply a few drop's of glue in those spot's. Done for 24 hours. Should look like this: This is the thickness: 4 pennies thick This is the width: 2 pennies width Second part, done 24 hour's later. 11 After 24 hour's you should have a ugly disk, but it should be solid and strong, unbreakable with your hand's. 12 Lay wax paper on a flat surface and place the disk down. 13 Coat the top of the plug with crazy glue. 14 Quickly pour aragonite evenly on top. wait a minute, then give it a shake to loosen up aragonite that didn't stick 15 Let dry for 3 minutes. 16 Lay out another piece of wax paper this time with a layer of aragonite on top of it. 17 Coat all the sides of the plug with crazy glue. 18 Quickly pick up the disk and roll it in aragonite or lay the disk on top of the aragonite and push the aragonite into all the sides. 19 Let dry for 3 minutes 20 Place the disk upside down, add glue on top, then quickly coat with aroganite DONE When finished it should look like this: This is the thickness after coated with dry aragonite: 8 pennies thick This is the width: 2 1/4 pennies width ***If you want more texture, thickness, width or just want it to look better and be shaped better. You can pick the disk up with your hand, then lay a sheet of wax paper underneath, then drop 1-2drop's of crazy glue here and there, then sprinkle aragonite on top where you added those drop's of glue. Give it a shake occasionally and allow some time for it to dry occasionally, then add more drops of glue and aragonite, where you think it needs some. Only sprinkle clean aragonite that has no glue in it. Link to comment
MaxiMiniNem
Thanks metrokat Wish I didn't sell it. Here is the finished frag disk In this pic the frag disk is under the dime. Link to comment

thewire
so what's the average cost per frag plug? Link to comment
marinoob
before i left work today i grabbed a handful of arogonite, a 3 pack of superglue from the dollar store and a sheet of wax paper. mine is about 3/16 of a inch think and took 7 minutes from beginning to end. only problem is the wax paper didnt peel off all the way and the center is still on the frag plug. im going to try and run it under hot water to release the wax maybe. but if i cant get the paper off i probably wont be using this. if i can get the paper off i like it more than my other prebought plugs. nice being able to customize a plug size on the fly. only problem is price. $1 worth of glue to make a 3/16" x 2.5" frag plug Link to comment
marinoob
so i rinsed it in hot water and got most of it off with a little scrubbing it should be okay. going to try some different things to see if i can get better results Link to comment
MaxiMiniNem
so what's the average cost per frag plug? estimated it a little wrong, to make a 1 1/2" disk totally finished like this: It would take a total of 6 x 1G tube's Here is the exact price, if you buy the glue in small amount's from dollarrama $1.50 for 1 1/2" finished The glue I bought from the dollarrama here in Canada is called: super glue made by adhaero you get 4 x 1G tubes ina single pack for $1 But will be cheaper if you hunt for large amount, if you want to save a bit of cash. ditka
i just read through this thread and i like this idea alot! here would be the more economical way to make a bunch of these: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIG-16OZ-BOTTLE-FL...=item519cfc52da 16oz = 453g 453g/6g per plug = 75 plugs $41/75 plugs = $.55 per plug If that scale is a little large for you, just search for Cyanoacrylate on ebay to get a smaller one of the industrial size containers. MaxiMiniNem
updated the post with instruction's to make a diy frag disk. Includes extra detail and pic's of the size/thickness. Might help, because if it's too thick, the glue might dry before it hits the bottom when dripping it. Link to comment
Lawnman
You can also get 3 tubes of super glue at dollar store for well a dollar. Link to comment
MaxiMiniNem
I need to hunt around, I think over here, you can buy the larger single container for $1, but it has 3G Might be wrong, need to look into this. A lot of hobby store's that sell rc planes/car's over here, sell the glue pretty cheap $20. I would probably need to check them out before buying the jumbo ones from e bay An item that was $30, end's up costing me $60 from delivery/custom's. Another idea is for the people that use the square tumbled tile that fit perfectly on their eggcrete rack's they may get by with soaking glue on it, then sprinkling aragonite all over it. Same with cement cured plug's. Link to comment
