sublunary
I thought I was saving myself some problems when I avoided buying xenia or any other known invasive. Apparently palys can be just as bad. I want to know if anyone has any ideas on how to prune these back without nuking everything in the tank. For a while, I'd take out an overgrown rock of coral before a water change, scrape off the offending palys, put it back in with some carbon. But myLPS always looks pissed off for a few days after, and my monti bleaches and looks on death's door for a week or more. I've thought about trying the usual aiptasia killers, but I'm worried the death would be too much for the rest of my tank to handle. I suppose I can start scraping again, but that doesn't seem permanent enough. I've also thought about just fragging the hell out of it, but I don't know if I want to give anyone else something quite so....virulent. So, comments, ideas suggestions? And just so you have an idea what I'm dealing with, here's a top down shot. The right side has almost been entirely taken over. The front rock and favia on the right are pretty bad too. AnthonyPf
scrape them off in a separate container. Link to comment
sublunary
scrape them off in a separate container. That's what I was doing before, and still - pissed off LPS and bleached monti. That's what I'll go back to if there are no better suggestions tho. Link to comment
Squared
i think i have that kind of paly in my tank. it does grow fast. Link to comment
Woogalie
Take it to your LFS and when their not looking, toss it in their tanks!!! Then leave the store quickly Link to comment
jeremai
needle/syringe + kalk or upgrade to a larger tank Link to comment
metrokat
I'll take a chunk if you want to frag it. I'll pay shipping priority $5 to NJ. Link to comment

joshnanoreef
I would literally remove the rocks/sand they are on and replace it with cured/dead rock and sand. Then bring it to the LFS and see if you can trade it in or sell it. Or send it to me Link to comment
MikeTR
Brown frown palys... good luck man. You leave any tissue left and they regrow. Trade in the rock. Link to comment
Squared
what lighting do you have? if you get actinic those palys may turn out to be a nice blue/green with a brown center, like mine, if we have the same ones. Link to comment
Thrassian Atoll
I did not think it would be too bad, but the pic finally loaded. Good god, those palys are hidious too. Good luck. I would take the rock out and get some new stuff. Good luck man. Link to comment
AnthonyPf
I agree with squared..Get the right lights and they may turn out beautiful. Link to comment
Squared
turns out he already has LEDs...do you have any actinics? mine look this...color is maybe just a little bit duller. basically what i'm saying...don't kill them! if you really don't want them try the LFS. Link to comment
AnthonyPf
When I look close at the light set up I do not see any blue at all? Are you running any royal blue LEDs at all? Link to comment
sublunary
I normally run blue, but couldn't get a picture to come out with them on. I promise that under a blue/white mix, they are a nice purple. If they were brown, they never would have made it into the tank. I love the idea of tossing them at the LFS. Next time they ignore me when i'm trying to buy something - BAM. metrokat - if you're serious, pm me. jeremai - I don't use kalk (frequent water changes instead of dosing). Maybe I'll look into getting some if it's not too expensive. those who suggested chucking the rock (or mailing it to NC) - believe it or not, there's a candy cane still alive under there. Maybe if I can kalk the polyps on the candy cane, I'll be able to cut it out of there and get rid of the rock. Just taking it out of there is going to rip lots of palys though, which is why I didn't do it sooner. Link to comment
ThePhilosopher
Start a new tank with some exotic nudibranch that feeds on palys. No, I'm not joking (assuming they are growing at an alarmingly fast rate). Link to comment

Understandable, but assuming you are willing to do this, I doubt you'd need a large tank (definitely smaller than a 5 gallon, I would think). Link to comment

With my previous reef, I had a rock with brown Pallys and TONS of aptaisia... I went to the vietnamese LFS that I HATE and BAM!!!! Dropped that POS off with them Link to comment
Woogalie
You gotta walk in with a big giant cup from 711. you put your unwanted crap inside it. Then walk in and smile at them, while they give you that unfriendly glare that they always do you go back to the tanks. When they are not staring at you, BAM!!!! ahahaha Link to comment
Euphyllia
Make sure you don't nuke the tank with palytoxin. Wear goggles and use gloves for whatever you do. Those palys can make you sick. Don't boil them either. Link to comment
AnthonyPf
What happens if you boil them? Link to comment
sublunary
Ok, I have a silly question. If I'm doing the kalk thing, do I need to squirt it onto the oral disk, or do I need to buy a syringe with needle to inject it into the body? Link to comment
