well something big happened at 6:15pm this evening, OPR dumped from 300 to 150, water is cloudy, a couple of corals are mucusing... most look pretty good.. I added some amquil, about 1.5 pounds of grc, 25 grams of GFO wetted up my skimmer, cleaned my filter sock and am about to do a 30 gallon water change

thanks, right now I am decideing wether or not to rip everything out to look for it, I am trying to figure out if it is going to turn a corner or just keep getting worse, no rtn yet... but the xenia are still having a hard time. I am thinking another water change... I have to go but ro water 2X30% in 5 hours... that is prety rough

$5 says the sea hare wasn't the cause and he'll resurface.

they seem to take along time to turn into slim after death. i've found them hardened days after death and know of a small tank that had 3 die and left for a week while the owners were on vacation.

nothing suffered and all were removed a week later.

then what? spawning?... I know sps tanks gow downhill Fassssssssst, but I was not even here ind it took place in less than 15 minutes according to the graph

just an update, I tested for:

amonia 0.0

nitrate 0. very trace amounts... i kind of expected this

copper 0.0

I am doing a 40 gal water change. right now i have 20 gal in the sump adjusting temp and ph

i put sechem hevematal binder in the media reactor

I am suspecting either a cheep powerhead I was using for my chato leaked somthing or a spawning event.. nothing else makes sence

I'm probably going to come across as quite daft and uninformed but what does ORP/OPR stand for?

Oxidation Reduction Potential (ORP)

Ditto, I had a seahare die on me too. I caught it the same day. DIDN'T nuke the tank nor release any toxins. And it was about thardness od a de-shelled boiled egg when I removed it.

Stop doing WCs asap. You just shocking the corals not improving the water quality.....
yea I am done for a day or so... you have to understand, almost every sps lightened at least moderatly and some drasticly... in the span of a few hours... xenia polops are all but goneyeterday this time I was gloating about how my surf n turf healed over a fragging in about 4 daysthis is a drastic change... the fish smell is gone now
How old is the tank
the tank is about 5 years old. I have had it since april... everything has been groing like mad. I have HAD TO frag my frogspawns twice in that time, they just got too big

White water leads me to believe its a spawning event....Either clams or stomatella snails

that is what makes sence, I have not added/changed anything... the whole thing took less than 15 minutes according to the ORP reccord.... that was a DRASTIC drop

what to do about the spawning event?
