Just wondering what everybody recommends for RO/DI. I was looking at the reef guys 75gpd but I really don't need that kind of output with only a 20 gallon tank. Just looking for some recommendations.

Cheers

Spectrapure all the way. Great quality and extremely long lasting filters. They have a variety of products to suit different needs but the Max Cap RO/DI systems are what most reefers use.

So what's the difference between something like a $190 spectrapure and a $140 MarineDepot brand? The quality of original filters used for RO? Both are 4 stage RO/DI units, and the marine depot claims to have a better flow of 100GPD.

The spectrapure RO membrane is by far the best membrane you can get. It is like 99.7% efficient. Individually tested and proven. In the long run it will save you money and make more water. AZDesertRat will chime in and blow your mind on how nice SpectraPure stuff is. But don't wait. Just buy their refurb unit(it is basically brand new just no box) and get that baby shipping today.

P.S. Flyers suck! LGP!

took me a minute to figure out what LGP was seeing you're in Seattle. However once it hit me all I have to say is... you're dead to me lol

On a serious note, thanks for the advice! That's what I figured the difference was I was just hoping to have it confirmed by some of the people on here.

Spectrapure has an even better deal right now for only $35 more than the refurbished you get a complete set of 1 micron replacement filters, a replacement DI cartridge, a low range chlorine test kit to monitor carbon condition and a handheld TDS meter!

I've always used air water and ice, they have great prices and have reliable results. change the filters every 6-12 depending on your source.

My second system was an AWI Typhoon III. I was not impressed at all. DI only lasted 150 measured gallons no matter what resin and I even installed a new membrane to try and make it better. I switched to Spectrapure and the very first DI cartridge lasted 830 measured gallons and I have never looked back. There really is a difference.

Crud! I'll have to try and cancel my order and get that deal. That sounds great, thanks for the info!

BRS and Spectrapure really aren't a fair comparison. Big differences and it adds up to a much lower cost of ownership for the end user. Love BRS chemicals but their RO is average and nothing special. Been there done that. There really is a difference.

So for those that have bought other RoDi kits could they replace with spectrapure membranes , cartridges, and di canisters?

Yes as long as they are standard 10" cannisters and a Dow 1812 style membrane housing. Some systems like Sears, Whirlpool and some Watts Premier to name a few, use a Dow 1810 style membrane that has a slightly different configuration and will not fit. You also want to replace the flow restrictor if you replace the membrane and take the time to adjust it for your exact water conditions.
