Diary of my daughter's mini reef

Well I was in the hobby 5 years ago and decided to quit just before my daughter was born. She is 4 now and wanted Nemo (isn't it ironic), so I got an IM Nuvo fusion 10.

It arrived at our house today and I have decided to keep a diary about the progress.

Had a spot in mind in the living room but had to set the stage for it.

Sounds cool! Any corals or just a FOWLER?

Remember to cycle first, of course :)

Yes, will start the cycle tomorrow.

Drilled some holes to run the wires and just bought a remora nano on eBay. I hope it works.

The tank, I bought it from aquacave and it was packed pretty well.

Found a led strip on eBay and will be ordering that soon

For now it will only be FOWLR.

Nice! Are you starting with live or dry rock? IMO dry is better since no pests and easier to scape, but that will make your cycle take longer

I agree, i will go to the LFS and check what they have

I hope you put some waterproofing between the tank and that nice wood cabinet.

Thanks, I had that in mind too, any suggestions what I can use?

I found a wine cabinet on CL and picked it up today. Put in the sand and dry rock. I am currently mixing saltwater and will add it tomorrow.

Cycle started.

Got the filter socks today just in time to get all the sand residue out. The water looks clear in about 2 hours or so. I also got a chance to use the nano flipper and all I can say that "it rocks".

While the cycle continues, I made some updates to the hardware. I found a used IM Nuvo 16 return pump so I am using that for my return, it is rated for 211 Gph so it is good improvement over the stock pump. I also got used IM spin stream and an used wp10 so I have decent flow.

Have you tried the nano remora on it yet? Just for fitment?

i did not since I found a cad lights pls 50 elite on local craigslist in Houston for 60 bucks. I modified it by cutting the bottom plate and I am using the pls50 in the second chamber. Works just fine.

Looks like the cycle is almost done and the water parameters look good. My little princess is excited.

Could you post some pics of how the skimmer looks in the tank and maybe how it was modified?

Did a water change including filter sock change and cleaning the glass and polishing the wooden wine cabinet and all completed within 1/2 hr.

And yes cleaned the skimmer cup too.
