amphipod
Hey y'all, I was collecting some specimens from a stream and I found nice clumps of algae that look like chaetomorpha. The algae is quite fibrous, very flexible, and grew heavily matted. The consistency not to be racist or anything felt like a black persons hair, curly strands, very springy. No apparent holdfasts, it doesn't float at all either. Water temperature was 60-70° F Clearwater stream silty bottom with pebbles. Many of the freshwater isopods asellus living among the strands, signs of amphipods also. Link to comment
amphipod
the algae committed algaecide, it disintegrated, but I do know the site I found the stuff, and at some point will get more if I need new asellus stock. but still no one gots a clue? Link to comment

patback
Everything from crystal clear,"let me grab a quick drink from this running brook" to "is that a body under that old tire" Link to comment
amphipod
That doesn't mean it wasn't racist i specifically said "not to be racist or anything" Everything from crystal clear,"let me grab a quick drink from this running brook" to "is that a body under that old tire" we are talking of the same thing then lol Link to comment
tibbsy07
i specifically said "not to be racist or anything" That means absolutely nothing. Most often when people say something like "no offense but..." "not to be racist but..." "not to be sexist but..." everything that follows is EXACTLY what they were saying they weren't going to be - offensive, racist, sexist, etc. The very fact that you had to justify your description as "not racist" means that a part of you thought it probably was racist and that you needed to place something in front of those words to say that it wasn't. Markburns43
I'm not getting on you I didn't take offense but you coulda said that it was like cheato to begin with we all know what that feels like and probably not to many people have gone around and patted a black persons hair just saying Link to comment

I didn't take what you said the wrong way. I'm separating the description of the algae later in the same sentence from the racist comment that preceded it. The very nature of the comment was racist. Your argument is this: You shoot me, but state just before you do it that you aren't aiming for me, so therefore you didn't really shoot me. Regardless of intention, you shot me. You could have used any other description, like one that A.) doesn't bring race into it and B.) doesn't assume a certain stereotype about an entire race of people. The rest of your description was perfectly fine. The comment on black people was racist. Like it or not, intended or not, it was a racist comment. You could have spent 30 seconds to come up with a non-racist description rather than preceding your comment with "not to be racist..." in order to mitigate any problems that comment would bring. If you don't want an argument or lecture on racist comments to ensue, don't make racist comments. Link to comment

Simple Solution then - don't post racist comments. At least not if you're expecting people to take your questions seriously. I can think of several better words to describe what you want to.
