Jebao WP10. Are they any good?

I'm in search of an inexpensive powerhead for my 63 gallon tank. I'm not aiming for a hurricane, I just want some decent flow through the rock work and corals. I've found a WP10 powerhead with a controller for £40 (around $70 or so USD) which I think is an absolute bargain. These pumps are rated at 1000gph which is what got my attention. I would like to know how reliable, noisy or quiet, adjustable and if they actually provide the amount of flow they are rated at. Any of this information would be appreciated.

Mine was good but only lasted for about 9 months. I seem to be one of the few people who has had issues with them but needless to say I ended up getting a vortech when it broke and essentially wasted 100 bucks.

Have you looked into the jebao rw4? It's similar in price and includes a controller. The flow is wider than the wp10 as well. I've had an rw4 for about 3 months and it's been great.

They are ok but too small for a 63 gallon tank and you should not pay more than $50 for one, and that's high IMO. I would look into a WP25 with a variable voltage power supply so you can dial it back if you really want less flow.

I've had crappy experiences with cheap equipment before, although I can't afford a Vortech, I can get a Korallia which I used before and didn't have problems with. I just want to try something different.

I had a look at the rw4 and it looks more professional at first glance, I'll read into it more. I need wider flow because my tank is nearly 3x2x2.

I have 2 wp25's and one has definitely gotten much weaker than the other. Both were purchased new less than a year ago and both are cleaned at the same time. Not sure why it slowed down

I live in England where aquarium equipment is more expensive than in the U.S, the prices are all the same at around £40 or $70 (rough conversion) my tank is just about 3ft wide so I don't need real strong flow to reach from one side of the tank to the other. A wp25 would be nice, but I'm tempted by the rw4.

2 bad reviews already? I don't think I even want to get anything with the Jebao name on it lol

It is what it is. I've heard in some cases that vinegar soaking will spruce then up a bit, something about tight tolerances of the impeller and bio film. This is back when the wp25 was brand new, so it's possibly dated information. The rw series has had mostly shining reviews fwiw, and I adore my DC 12000

The rw pumps seem a lot better than the wp pumps. I've read a review on this site, and everyone seems to love the RW4s, people are surprised at how much flow they produce. The controllers look really good too, a lot better than the wp10s.

That's it, I'm not even going to look at the wp10 anymore. It's either the RW4 or a korallia now :)

The rw4 is also jebao brand

The rw4 is jebao brand as well. They also make an rw8 which has twice the flow (180-2100 gph) and isn't much more expensive the last I looked. The rw8 has the same features/functions as the rw4.

You'll need a lot more than just one wp10 or Rw4 for a 63g.

It will also have a 2028 eheim canister that does about 200gph and a small fluval powerhead that will be switched out for another powerhead after sometime

Jebao doesn't actually make the DC 12000, just put their stamp on it. ;)

They are all made by the company that made the RLSS Gen 1 waveline pumps.

Same molds.

At $137.

Who cares?

The rw8 costs about $15 more than the rw4. So I'll have to consider which one to get. The rw8 is appealing, 2100gph could push some serious water around my little tank :)

Dont you have Amazon there?

Those prices seem high.

Anyway,

I was originally very critical of my WP25. Thought it was crap.

Its held up longer than I thought. Outlasted a MJ1200 in the same tank. Much much much quieter than the MP10 Vortech in my other tank, which sounds like an airplane taking off most the time. Much.

I would buy a Jebao pump OVER the MP10 any day now.

I will change my opinion when new data is known. I will run RWs in my frag tanks, MaxSpect Gyres in display tanks. Probably the Jebao DC pumps in the sumps and skimmers, need to test those.

Quite frankly, I've heard of lots of problems with them, but I have also heard of people having lots of problems with Ecotech pumps as well. I like my Ecotech products, and wouldn't ever buy a Jebao, however that is completely my opinion and has zero bearing on the actual quality of the product  .Best thing to do is buy the best equipment you can afford, OR buy the best equipment you want to afford and use the money you save buying cheaper for buying other stuff. I doubt anyone is going to argue that other wave pumps out there are of better quality. An Ecotech pump is much better build quality, However, for the price and control your Jebao pumps are unbeatable. I would suggest a RW as opposed to the older ,"W" series pumps. They have more control and are obviously built better( most companies improve designs as the release new models). Good luck with your purchase, and I don't think you can really go wrong with them, they are good products as far as I have seen.

I have had both, an mp10 and a wp10, I found I much prefered the wp10. Being able to direct the flow has been huge for me trying to keep enough flow for acros up top, and not blast my big flow sensitive LPS on the bottom.

Mine has been silent and hasn't skipped a beat for 6 months with no cleaning. With cheaper Chinese stuff your rolling the dice due to shitty QC, but I doubt you'd get 6 bad pumps in a row (6 wps for the price of one mp)

The rw seem like a better product, and at some point I plan on upgrading my wp to a rw

Thanks! I will probably be getting the pump as a Christmas present, since I don't really want other stuff nowadays. Now that I know that the RW series is an upgrade to the WP pumps, I will certainly be getting an RW4 or 8. Korallia pumps are also cheap, but they dont come with a controller for a low price.

Mr. Microscope

Yes, mine just died. Had it eight or nine months. It's a nice little pump. A little noisy I think. I noticed it over my MP10.

I think it worked well for a secondary pump to fill in some gaps, but I wouldn't use it as my main source or flow. In a 63 gallon, honestly I'd use four. Even though it crapped out on me, I'm considering getting one or maybe two more to add to my MP10. Like I said, it's a nice pump for the money.

Why not get the Gyre 50w?

Its shipping this month. Friday I think.

He noted the price point of the Jebao, the Gyre is rather expensive from what I've read.

Compared to 4 RW, which he'll need for 65 gallon. Its about the same price.

My tank is 32"x20"x24" which means I would need to get wide flow, ideally I would like 1 Rw8 on one side of the tank and 1 rw4 on the other side where my canister filter outlet is. I would like to thank all of you for the help and information you've given me, now I know that I should avoid the WP pumps and get RWs instead.
