Chew_Magna
Haha I see you took that name I gave your scape! lol The mandarins doing good in there? They're one of my wishlist fish but I'm a little afraid to try them in a 40b. Link to comment
xzeror
Haha I see you took that name I gave your scape! lol The mandarins doing good in there? They're one of my wishlist fish but I'm a little afraid to try them in a 40b. I've had the male for about 4+ months. The female for about 2-3 months. The female arrived emaciated and skinny one of the worst I have seen. She quickly fattened up and eats like a pig. They both love live brine soaked in selcon, they also eat frozen brine and the occasional mysis. At night they sleep and cuddle up next to each other . I still have my HOB fuge along with the 40 sump as the hob fuge was maintaining them in my 29g. I'm a bit scared to take it off just yet as it has a very good pod population and is the main source of pods till my fuge in the 40 sump gets more established. The mandarins were the only fish in the 40b for a while. Before I got my anthias and wrasse from LA. And yes, yes i did haha. Is that my nem? Lol IT IS! it finally split haha. So i have two If ya ever wanna trade ill more than gladly give ya back one of your nems clones They have made speckles and crazy colors. Link to comment

xzeror
coralline is starting to turn white... any suggestions? Had 7.4 ph this morning so i used some reef buffer and got it to 8.2 Tested once i came home from work Ph: 7.8ish Ca: 400 KH: 12 Mag: ? All were done by my api test kit. Doing 10g weekly changes with IO, not reef crystals.. Everything "looks" healthy, slow growth on everything including sps, and lps. What can be causing the coralline to die off? what should I be doing/testing? Are my 10g water changes not enough? Do I need to start dosing? Link to comment

717Tank
I was going to ask how your coral growth was with your reefbreeders light, bt you just answered that lol. I hope you figure out your coralline figured out, can I ask why you are using IO, instead of reef crystals? I'm very new to reefing but seems like maybe just a change in salt mixes to help keep your levels more stable could help with the coralline algae and speed up coral growth, but I could be wrong Link to comment

These reefbreeders > t5s by far. Just lately my water chem has been out of whack. Ph going all over the place, calc being low. and the only reason i had IO is because i had a gift card from petco. Reef crystals was my #1 choice. Before i was using oceanic salt and had good results so idk if i am going to go back to oceanic or take the risk with a new salt (again) and get the reef crystals. Just trying to finish up the bucket so i can get a new one. Link to comment

What is it normally at, are you corals looking pissed off? If not and this is what you normally run it at, then I wouldn't worry about it, I've had my tank up for 2 years and the coraline goes through phases. Covering every surface imaginable some months, and then virtually gone except on the rocks the next Link to comment

Sps, Lps, zoas and nems all look great. I've been chasing this chemistry problem and I think all I have been doing is making matters worse. I feel like I should just use my eyes as judgement and leave the tank be. The only thing bother me is the coralline. Large portions of deep purple on my rocks are starting to turn white :c. I love my purpley rocks.... Going to start mixing some water and I'm going to test it to see if maybe the salt I'm using is the culprit. Link to comment

Sorry, but there's no instant fix to stop the coralline die off... checking your salt isn't going to do anything. If it's started dying off, a fair portion will start turning white and falling off-nothing you can do about it. The good news is it will be back P.S. maybe it's your mag? It probably dropped a little which can halt coralline growth from what I understand Link to comment

milfordguy
Any updates? How are those anthias doing? I'm looking to get some for my 40B Link to comment
xzeror
I honestly forgot I made this build thread... well its been about 9 months of growth since the above pics. 6/26/16 FTS Ricordea has come a long way. Many pieces have been fragged off to go in a lil pico i started. So it used to be bigger, Along with a scoly i picked up by trading some corals The frog and monti have gotten huge, as well as the purple hornets. The trumpet was a single head in the pics above in the sand bed, look at it now. All frags that I just picked up from a recent frag swap and online. The big colonies in the garden are ones that I have had. Last but not least my fav paly... the pink zippers, currently over 30 heads and it grew from a 2 polyp frag. (this is after fragging, thus the valley) This acro and the millie have grown a lot. The millie encrusted all over the plug, but still hasnt reached out yet. The green acro is branching out like crazy. http://s695.photobucket.com/user/xzeror/media/IMAG1368_1.jpg.html'> Link to comment
xzeror
Any updates? How are those anthias doing? I'm looking to get some for my 40B Anthias are doing great. Eatting like pigs. One of my females however, is growing a fin like the male. Not sure what's gonna happen with that but they are fine. Very active. I want to get more and different kinds but the ones i have are already a handful (cant spot feed corals anymore bc they rip the food out, they bully any new fish, aggresive eaters lol.) Few things have changed in my setup... I now run the photon 24 and not the value fixture (great light), I do water changes every week without fail, I feed twice a day cube of mysis and brine every feeding. I try to spot feed coral but my fish dont allow me. Link to comment
