Does analog dimming have the same instantaneous control of LED's like pwm dimming? I don't know too much about the differences other than the type of signal.

The video refernces a makers controller. It's in a black box with a small display. Is this something that's due out soon? I'd love some details!

At 1:20 during the video it says "An optional Black terminal block for Dimming control"

 

I'm confused..I thought this was already a dimmer built in with the driver . Do I need to buy something else to

use this driver/dimmer to work as a dimmer for my 2 channels of LED's ?

There are some smarts that allow you to dim it via the dimming knobs.

If you want to use a controller like the DIM4 to do a sunrise sunset then you can also do that. Gives you the best of both worlds.

Most people with controller will set the controller to do the sunrise/sunset and then as thats happening they will fine tune it with the dimming knobs until they get the perfect color they want.

sorry to bring back an old thread, but how does the dimming work with a 0-10v signal from an apex. is it just a single channel from the apex, which dims both channels to the maximum knob set preset? Is there a way of locking in the knob presets so that they don't get accidentally bumped? if I wanted to control two channels from my apex, i would need two of these? (thats okay since I have 4 channels of LEDs)

 

I'm currently using a very diy looking setup under my hood, with a stormx controller, but will be getting an apex soon, and want to make my light more fixture like so I can more easily move it with me to a future tank. I also want to have it fully controlled by the new apex, with two channels of dimming control from the apex, and 4 channels of individual control over the LED max levels. This looks like the ideal way to do it, with a makers heatsink, but I want to make sure I don't get it and find out it doesn't work the way I assumed it would.



also, if I wanted to control it from an apex, without the makers controller, what determines if the fans are on or off? Are the fans always on, at 100% power unless you cut power to the unit?

The MakersDriver has one 0-10v input, dims both channels (or all five channels) at once. The 12v output of the boards is always hot, so the fans always stay on unless power is cut to the 48v supply.

okay new question, has anyone tried sending 2 0-10v dimming pairs, and 48v power (split into two pairs so its 1.5A per pair to minimize amps through the cable) all through a single cat 5 connector?

 

set up a little box with a pair of RJ 45 jacks, one for connecting to an apex, and the other going up to the fixture carrying the 0-10v control signals from the apex, and the power for the drivers? Minimize the number of cables going up into the light? I keep getting different answers online as to what cat5 can handle power wise. I know it handles my 700mA 36V DC power coming from my drivers, but not sure what would happen if it was carrying the power TO the drivers if I had the drivers up in a makers heat sink

I personally wouldn't run power and signal through the same wire, but that is up to you. Watch out for your wire lengths and the thickness of the wire in your ethernet cable. CAT6 uses 23AWG and should be used.

good call on the thicker cat6 cable, and i'm only planning 5-7 feet of cable. I'm thinking maybe its best to just stick a 2 conductor wire to the outside of the cat5, and do it that way. maybe find a nice long piece of shrink wrap tubing to make it look pretty, since thats half the point of this light upgrade :P
