Newlinta
Got my gu10's on Friday and spent the day putting a fixture together. It houses the LED's and the cfl for the mangroves. Used an old cd case for the housing...a little more bulky than I would like, but it does the job. I attached the LED's to 3/8" plywood, made a reflector/housing out of (roof)flashing for the cfl. Made the stand out of 1/2 schedule 40 PVC... painted it black. There is a switch on the cord to turn the whole fixture on/off...also a switch on the socket for the cfl inside the box in case I want just the LED's on. A few pics of the fixture... Link to comment
Newlinta
There are 3 4x1watt royal blues and 2 3x1watt cool whites. Total of 18 watts(plus 13 watt 6500k cfl) Tank shots...(iPhone captures blues weird...the effect is not a "spotlight" as it looks in the pics) View from my couch... Link to comment

Newlinta
Sweeeeet! love this pico forgot to add that I love how you did the sand high on the right side Thank you...I did the rocks on the left and sand on the right to give the feeling of "barriers"... The confines of the lagoon. Any thoughts about these parameters...? They are in order from the end of week 2/end of week 3/ end of week 4 Temp. 78/ 78/ 79 Ph. 8/ 8/ 8.1 Am. 4.0/ .25/ 0 No2 .25-.5/ .5/ 0 No3 5/ 40/ 40 Link to comment
got2envy
Looks like you are on the right track! I am sure the mangroves will help knock out some nitrates...they love a spritzing of fresh water every once in a while too Link to comment
Newlinta
Not much new...parameters as of today(end week 5)... Temp 78 Ph 8.1 Am 0-.25 No2 0-.25 No3 40+ And this showed up over the last few days I'm really surprised how fast this appeared. It's only on those 2 spots sort of under the waterfall... Guess I should get rid of that. Link to comment

Newlinta
Awesome!!! What kind of corals will you put into? The left rock wall will be covered in a dozen or so different zoas... I have 3 different colors of star polyps(pink, neon green, light green) Sympodium, some macros,I think gorgonians, pulsing Xenia, maybe some simple SPS...who knows what else...lol Trying to find more stuff that's smaller scale/size to fit in. Here's some crappy random pics of a few zoas... Link to comment

Newlinta
Well...I finally got through the cycle, did a water change and cleaned up a little. Started putting some corals in: a bunch of zoas, pulsing xenia, some photosynthetic gorgonian, sympodium and 3 different colors of gsp. Added a few macros too: ochtodes, halymenia sp and an unidentified red one. full set-up full tank shot Link to comment
Islandoftiki
So, I'm curious, I've heard that having live rock above the water line can be, well, smelly. Any issues with that? Also, how's evaporation? I didn't notice if you had an ATO Link to comment
Newlinta
Got the left side mostly done. Most of it is the zoa garden/wall, but there's gsp, gorgonian, rics and macros there, too. I'll probably add more zoas and maybe macros there. The right side is pretty bare. Only some sympodium in the far right corner and a few macros. I plan on putting 3-4 different color monti capsin the front right area where there are a few tips of rocks sticking up/out. Still looking for a "feature" coral for the "big" rock front/center and the slope under the waterfall... some random shots Link to comment
