tennis20
I think it's an anemone. But don't just go on my input. Link to comment

awpong
Thanks. I'll wait for someone to confirm what you are thinking! THat's an anemone. I'd get rid of it as it doesn't look friendly. Either a majano or Aiptasia Link to comment
coley54
Thanks. Safe to touch with gloves on or should I use something else to pull it out? Link to comment
tennis20
I think just to be safe use gloves or tweezers to take it out. Link to comment
coley54
Thanks! I'm pulling my heater out to take him off. Tweezers it is! Link to comment
awpong
Just make sure you do it out of the tank. When they're stressed, they can release planula and they'll colonize your entire tank. Link to comment
coley54
Thanks! I appreciate it! Link to comment
DaJMasta
Aiptasia, I haven't heard about them spreading spores around when they're stressed, though there are plenty of sea creatures that do. I've taken care of mine with a shot of highly concentrated kalkwasser, but there are commercial treatments and such available as well. You could probably even get it off with an algae scraper and catch it in your hand or a net. Link to comment
sakana8
Yeah, you should get rid of it. Once aptasia gets all over your tank its hard to get rid of. Link to comment
coley54
I unplugged my heater to cool down (florida is nice and hot and my heater doesn't run too much right now) and when I went to pull the heater out it actually fell right off the heater and floated around so I netted him out and tossed him. He is gone! YAY! I'll keep my eye out for more of them. Link to comment
mbonus
too bad, sort of looked like a flower nem. I would have waited or isolated it before killing it, but it's your tank. If you look at this thread, the bases sort of looked similar http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?...1&hl=flower Link to comment
