while i'm working on my main tank, i decided to set up this quick little nano, after seeing nips' thread.

simple, easy to set up, and easy to take care of.

good design does not have to be expensive.

Quick DIY stand:

Don't mind the asymmetry.

Very easy to do. If you don't have a miter saw, you can ask the people at HD (or where ever you buy your wood) to cut to specs. All you really need is:

  • clamps
  • wood glue
  • 12V+ drill
  • wood screw
  • sandpaper?

Rocks tied together with fishing line:

Dry scape with sand:

The stand was later painted white.

The Aquamedic light fixture I'm using was hung from the 1/2" bent EMT conduit using eyescrews, wires and crimps. The bent EMT conduit light arm allows for the light to be swung out during maintenance.

Actinic supplementation is done with LED bulbs. Read more details here

where did you get that!!!!!!!!!!!??????!!!?!?!??!?!?!??!??!

the bulb, i got from ebay. it works well as a moonlight, but only mediocre as an actinic supplement.

i'm looking for new bulbs to replace it, that will put out more lumens but isn't too expensive.

a local uses one of these and he's happy with them as actinic supplements.

the fixture is from ikea.

here's a write up with details:

Would a couple of those Ebay bulbs in white be enough for a tank, or not so much??
