skibum513
Hey Everyone I've been lurking on the forms for a while and finally decided to start a 1 gallon pico reef. For the tank I am using a cookie jar from wall mart that I am modifying. The lighting is a cree led with 2 royal blue led's and one neutral white led running at about 3.5 watts. I added a piece of acrylic to create a sump area in the back for all the filtration equipment. For filtration I am using a filter pad (with carbon) propped up against the overflow part as well as Chato and refugium rubble. The pump in the back is a rio 180 a lot of flow but it seems to be working. Once closed the tank seals up nicely and prevents evaporation. I haven't needed to add water between water changes. Here is the finished product. For corals I have a Xenia and some Zoa's as well as a few hitchhikers. At the moment I have 2 blue legged hermit crabs and a snail for livestock. I have a few Hitchhikers I would like help identifying The first is some sort of coral or anemone that seems to be doing well The next is possibly and anemone of sorts (hopefully not Aiptasia its just underneath the crab) another picture In that last picture there is also a worm if anyone knows what this worm is that would be good to know. I saw him one night and he was very fast. At the moment it seems like something I am going to try to remove unless he is ok to have in the tank. But anyways Hope you like the tank and thanks Brandon429 and El Fabuloso I got a lot of information from your guys forms 2 Quote Link to comment
quiddmobile
the anenome/thing under the crab does not look like aiptasia and the #2 that you pointed out in the last picture looks to be an amphipod, which are good for your tank. Quote Link to comment
smeagol108
I have seen a few of these tiny sealed cookie jar tanks. How is oxygen depletion not an issue/gas buildup? Just hoping someone can help me understand this. looks great! Quote Link to comment
skibum513
Thanks for the Id I was worried about that guy, good to know I wont have to exterminate anything! and I was a little worried about 02 levels and a few things are helping with that (or I hope at least). There is a pretty good volume of air at the top, The macro should produce some 02, and opening it every few days to check the water. So far it seems to be working for me at least we will see as time goes on. Quote Link to comment
