Jimmyboo
From my 2g thread (http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/345687-2-gallon-cookie-jar/page-2#entry4723404): Just noticed Hitchikers on the GLASS!!! Copepods... And tones of them. Next I was looking at the bottom of the tank moving some sand away from the heater and I noticed some weird brown thickish thing. It kept expanding and a long white featherish thing came out of its "mouth" and it grew to about twice it size. Then it got smaller and the process repeated. Not sure what it was but within a min or two it had dug itself in the sand probably never to be seen again. I do have a video, but its dicey. EDIT: Ok, Here it is (note the pods running up the glass in the vid too bottom left at the 30ish second mark): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IOFdoQrSYRA&feature=youtu.be Best, JB ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hitchhiker #2 I am looking at the only pic of what I think are the pods and getting suspicious that this may be something else. They seem to be hiding around the heater and are tiny. Sorry cant put full size pic here. Anyone think its some sort of baby shrimp thing? Jimmyboo
Peanut worm. Thanks! sounds good, although I hear usually they die off as they run out of food Link to comment
Jimmyboo
Hey guys, new hitchhiker today, described it a bit above. I believe they are copepods, but would like if someone could confirm that. The tank has only been up 1 week, but I am using live rock, so I am wondering if this is starting to signal the end of the cycle? Tamberav
Some sort of copepod or isopod, it is common to have a bloom of them shortly after the tank is set up, then their numbers decline and stabilize depending on food availability and predators. Link to comment
