Cereal Killer

Well, after restarting my BioCube I got bit by the bigger reef bug and decided I really like the look of a 40 Breeder. After getting a great deal on a setup from a co-worker who just happened to have a 40 Breeder my mind was made up. Just so happened that it was the last day of the Petco $1/Gal sale and they had one (40B) in stock, Score! Now it was time to get the tank I got ready to be setup as the sump. As you can see it was a little green. Yep that's my dog's big butt in the background.

So after getting that all cleaned up I set out to find someone who could build me the perfect stand. After searching the internet for ideas I came across the build thread of Marlboro Zoa over on reef central and he had exactly what I was looking for. Shared the ideas with the guy making the stand and he took the challenge, after throwing around some ideas (pull out sump) then throwing those out the window and probably driving him crazy haha I finally made up my mind and we worked out the finial dimensions of 39"Hx42"Lx24" deep made of oak. So now for some photos of the stand in its creation.

I forget what this is called but I love the look of it.

It found its legs:

Going with 4 doors two in front one on each side for ease of access.

Top as it is now but going with a trim around the bottom to hide the black trim of the tank.

More to come on the stand as it continues. Now for the main tank, Had a local reefer help drill my tank for me cause if I had tried we wouldn't be reading this thread now. Wish I had thought to take a pic of it wile being drilled but oh well. Here is the end results.

Okay so now onto the sump. In my other thread I showed what I was going to attempt with the sump, well this is how it came out not perfect went a little heavy with the silicone at some points.

Room in back for plumbing.

In the final stages poly is on 5 coats. Next up is the inside painting. Finding Marine epoxy is a pain in the butt. I couldn't be happier with how it came out.

3rd coat of Marine enamel paint is on and set and I have to say it looks amazing. I really think when I add a LED light to the stand the inside will really glow.

Have you had any problems with your ATO being higher than your sump? My only concern about doing that would be if something failed. I'm sure you probably built some sort of failsafe into it that I may have just missed.

Edit:

Oh wow last post was in June...
