Fishgirl2393
OK, so I have this cyano issue and was wondering... Does ChemiClean work (as in, cyano doesn't come back after dosing) and is it a safe product? Experiences with it? Has it killed anyone's corals/fish/inverts? Link to comment
Pickle010
I will come back if you don't find the source of your phosphates. But yes - it works (for it's intended purpose) and it's safe as long you can follow the directions. 3 Link to comment
Rollermonkey
Safe yes, but it does sometimes require additional doses. Skimmer has to be off for like 48 hours and you need to do a WC at that point, too, IIRC. Link to comment
matt frizz
Also, if you continue use with it, your tank will build a tolerance. Use it as a last resort or it loses effect. Try to pinpoint the issue at hand. Phosphates. Link to comment
Fishgirl2393
Phosphates are TESTING at 0. I know the cyano may be using it up though. If I used phosphate remover (CPE) after using ChemiClean, would this help remove the phosphates? Does it (I am pretty sure it says it does) get rid of detritus-like material (I think that is the cause of my cyano)? Link to comment
Tbone675
works great i even used it at 3x the dose. mine has not come back in 6 months. Link to comment
Kfmmartin19
Tank was covered in cyano. Dosed twice and it was gone, never to be seen again. Didn't harm anything. That was about a year ago. 1 Link to comment
Fishgirl2393
OK. I'm tempted to try it. I don't want to buy a full pound of GFO (only size my LFS has) so is ChemiPure Elite good enough to remove phosphates? Also, do those phosphate removing pads work? I figure the phosphate is all locked up in the cyano and that once it dies, the phosphates will be released (to be removed by filtration after it is OK to turn it back on). As I asked, what about the detritus? Link to comment
Jacobsdad09
Chemi pure elite is good enough given u have a "nano" tank(don't know ur tank size)..... Also the po4 die off is really not the big issue..... Once u use the chemi clean u HAVE to do a water change and the larger the WC the more u remove of the left over chemical/die off.....remove as much as u can and let ur tank handle the rest..... Stop worrying and people are going to keep telling u the same thing over and over ( just try it already........) Link to comment
reeferman81
This is ridiculous what is this 5 or 6 threads now on the same thing how many times did we say to use Chemi Clean your so hard headed http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/317452-please-help-cyano-issue/ http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/315927-help-needed-to-get-rid-of-cyanobacteria/ http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/305780-help-me-get-rid-of-cyano-in-my-20-gallon-high-aquarium/ http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/315927-help-needed-to-get-rid-of-cyanobacteria/ http://www.nano-reef.com/topic/278566-help-me-get-my-20-gallon-tall-nano-reef-back-on-track/page-5 She has opened 6 different topics on the same thing we have all gave her in depth information on how to get rid of Cyano and she does not take it. I'm just sick and tired of seeing the same thing over and over again. I guarantee you if you look back in any of these links of threads she's posted it says the same thing. 6 Link to comment

Fishgirl2393
This is not the same question. I'm asking in THIS one about if it is safe AND (this question has yet to be answered) if it gets rid of "organic solids" (aka. detritus). So, does it? The tank looks good right now but I know it will come back because I've done scrubbing of the rocks/cleaning of the sand bed before and it came back. So, if someone will answer my question about detritus, I'll stop. Link to comment
danimal1211
It does seem to help in breaking down built up detritus. I've never used it, just going off what others have reported. Its best to keep up with maintenance to prevent these build ups in the first place. Also, these topics are related and could have been consolidated in one thread. No need to open a new topic 2 Link to comment
doppelganger
Why would we all suggest it so many times if it's not safe? Follow the directions EXACTLY and it will be fine. 2 Link to comment
ward827
Hey Fishgirl2393! Stop being so indecisive!!! The stuff works! We've all told you in numerous threads! This is getting ridiculous! How many times do I need to tell you? And yes, it's safe! Yes, it got rid of mycyano in one dose, never came back! Cleared some detritus as well. Did not harm a single thing in my tank! Just use the product already. Sheesh! 2 cents. W- 1 Link to comment
Hook'Em2006
It won't work. It will kill everything, and probably turn the water pitch black. I've even heard stories of it sucking oxygen from the air in the home killing entire families. 9 Link to comment
kismetsh
It won't work. It will kill everything, and probably turn the water pitch black. I've even heard stories of it sucking oxygen from the air in the home killing entire families. Not only that, it will fill every single available nook and cranny with detritus. The tank will appear to be a solid block of poo. Luckily since the water (what little will be left after the poo explosion) will be pitch black, it won't be noticeable. 1 Link to comment
brandon429
there is no way to rid detritus from your system without siphoning it out no matter where you check. if chemi clean does reduce the floc that is detritus, its only breaking it down and making the particles smaller, you can't turn solids into gas like that for it to come out of the tank. The detritus on your rock must be removed by hand or it will build up and kill your tank, no other way around it. Link to comment
Fishgirl2393
Thanks. I will be getting it as soon as I can. My LFS doesn't have it so I'll either have to get them to order it or order it myself online. The tank currently doesn't have red slime but I'm sure it will in a few days so I'll use it then. Mstefa1
is it a safe product? No, you will die a slow, painful death. 2 Link to comment
Fishgirl2393
OK, I was not just asking the people who have said it is safe. I was asking others who might have had an experience with it too. I just didn't want to add something until I knew about it. Like I said, I'm going to get it as soon as I can. I'm convinced that the cyano will NOT go away until I do. Link to comment
louy99
I personally think dosing waste away bacteria is a safer more natural way to kill cyano and keep it away. Link to comment
Fishgirl2393
So as soon as I can get ChemiClean, I'm going to try it. Cyano is back today (not much but on the rocks). Kenya tree was closed up all day today (slumped over too), I assume it should be OK... The only thing I did yesterday was add the sand bed back to the tank (after washing and washing it for several days). All other corals look OK, so will the kenya be OK? Link to comment
Fishgirl2393
OK, that was not helpful. I never said it was dying. Only that the coral was slumped over and not open today. And no, I will not get out of a hobby I love just because some of you people on here think that your way is the ONLY way to do something. Sorry, but there are many ways to have a reef tank and many ways to get things fixed that are wrong. I'm going to try ChemiClean because I've tried every other method out there. I've battled (and won the battle) against Caulerpa prolifera in another tank I had. Many people would call that impossible. Link to comment
