cyanobacteria - it means you have some nutrients building up in your sand bed - try reducing the depth to less than 1/2" inch. Some people recommend using either less than 1/2" or more than 4", but those with more than 4" (deep sand beds) usually just delay the problem, and after a few years, the nutrients build up in the sand bed, and they have many, many problems - much worse than a small patch of Cyano
