Hitchhiker Crab Top

possible gorilla crab. They can be a litte agressive towards bottom dwelling fish and to hermits and snails. I still have couple but they don't seem to be bothering anything

I HAD ONE OF THOSE IN MY LR TOO!!!! THEY ARE BAD NEWS!!! THEY EAT INVERTS!!! INCLUDING SNAILS AND CLEANER SHRIMP....Good thing you caught him

I also had one and just removed it last night after I saw it eating on some zoo's. I think it might be a baby decorator crab. The hairy parts are used to alow coraline or other corals to attach to it to allow it to hide better.

how'd you catch it? I saw 2 of them on a piece of LR I just put in.

I caught it by using a home made trap. Take a normal drinking glass, put in your aquarium leaning against your live rock. Preferably near where the crabs have been seen or their hide-outs. Make sure it is leaning at a steep angle, too. Bait the "Drinking Glass Trap" with a sinking predator pellet, or some other meaty bait that will stay at the bottom of the trap. Leave it in there over night. Hopefully you will have some scary little hitchhikers hangin out in the trap by morning. I caught my porcelin crab twice, and a few bristle worms before I caught the evil hairy crab. I really dont think he is that bad though. I have him in my 3/4 gallon Quarantine tank living with some zoanthids and aptasia. He hasn't bothered either, and he didn't bother anything in my main tank... so I am thinking about adding him back into the main tank. But probably he will forever be a captive of the evil "prison tank" which masquarades as a quarantine facility. Hee Hee! Good luck catching yours, I really do suggest keeping them, they are scary looking, but kinda fun too!
