Light Hanging?

Not speaking from experience here but with 2 the light would swing less if bumped.

The brace on 1 does nothing for you. Go 2 or go bigger like StevieT suggests.

If the thin lines are wires, then design 1 is better. If they are wooden braces, design 2 is better.

meh, I would use PVC before I would use wood. You can run the cord through it and it can be painted or wrapped for looks. Electrical conduit and a pipe bender can be even better.

You don't hang it on anything, you use drywall anchors. See this:
