gosink1000 Posted November 11, 2010 Reef-diculous. That is such an awesome shot that it is probably illegal in some countries. Can you keep a mandarin alive in a small tank for very long? I had heard you needed too many copepods or similar live food. Thoughts? Quote Link to comment
inTank Posted November 11, 2010 Thanks. This mandarin has been in my tank for over two years now. He is trained to eat frozen food which is the only way. Not for the beginner but it can be done if you are dedicated enough. Lots of info on that here: http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=131416&st=0&start=0 Quote Link to comment

briansbelle Posted December 2, 2010 Beautiful fish! I too have a mandarin in a small tank, well actually 2 mandarins in 2 small tanks. One is in a 20 long and one is in a 28 bowfront. The one in the 20 long has been in there 4 months and is faaatttt! She eats like a pig. I have found starting out feeding nutramar ova and feeding in the same spot helps them learn to associate that spot with food and will soon start picking at whatever is put there. Sorry for rambling stevie but hopefully my experience with feeding these beautiful fish a better chance of long term survival instead of them dieing off in tanks at a high rate. Quote Link to comment
kencan Posted December 4, 2010 I also have a mandarin in a 20 long...he's been in the tank for over a year. When I posted a pic of him one of the comments was he looks hungry. I'm retired military and got him from a guy leaving to go overseas when I got him he wasn't looking to good due to his owner having been deployed on a very short notice. I guess what bothered me about the comment was the person not knowing anything about my tank setup or even asking about my setup. Mine eats frozen shrimp and live brine shrimp plus I get live copepods that I order on line. So he may not be a huge but his color is good and he eats daily...by the way your's looks great Quote Link to comment
