StevieT Posted September 12, 2008 wow, so many colors. but whats up with the tang? Quote Link to comment
snatchbak Posted September 12, 2008 Tight! I'd keep one tang in a 30+ gallon tank. Just take him out when it grows larger. That hippo looks quite large already. Quote Link to comment
j'field Posted September 12, 2008 Thanks all. Yup is a hippo tang. The only tang in a 61 gal. It lost it right fin in a fight. So I decide to keep it and take care of it . Quote Link to comment

fishtooth Posted September 12, 2008 LOVE the colors! Great placement of the corals and the colors pop on the black sand. Great job in selection of corals and putting the larger ones in back and smaller ones up front. I doubt you will have any trouble winning the tank of the month contest. BEAUTIFUL! j'field Posted September 13, 2008 Thanks all again for the nice words. And Aqua newbie, to answer your question. The answer is yes and no. Lol! I think the aggression of some corals are unavoidable. Think even in the wild and the big ocean corals are stinging each other. So in my tank, I try to observe and understand each of the corals I have and place them according to their aggressiveness. But sometimes I still some corals might take over another in my small tank. For eg. my green mushroom grow so well that it grew over afew heads of my candy cane and I can't move it and thinking no point doing so as the mushroom is fix already on the candycane. But I do realise that some of my corals have no issue with touching each other. Eg. in points 1) some of my zoas is touching my scoylmia and both are doing fine. My maxima clams are also touching the zoas and they are fine. 2) Corals can be more aggressive when they are more healthy than another. 3) Eg. When I first had my favia and echinatas, the favia sting the echinatas. But as time pass, the echinatas grew more and it revenge but stinging the favia back with even a stronger sting! Leaving a white patch on the favia! So now both of them had quite abit of distance from each other. 4) It also depends on how hardy and how fast the corals grow. Take for example, I place afew of my Euphyllias near the starpolys as I dun mind the starpolys being sting as the can grow like a wild grass! Lol. 5) I think most importantly have to understand the corals well enough so that they can live in harmony. Some other corals are not so aggressive so when they touch each other, they will just retreat abit and will not be so serious to the extend of injure or even dying. Above points are just in my own opinion and experience. As I think different corals reacts differntly in different tanks and there might be other considerations to take note. So please don't come and kill/blame me when you place 2 corals close together and end up killing both. Lol! Quote Link to comment
j'field Posted September 13, 2008 Agree with you Rehype, I like to play with the mixing and matching of T5 lightings. Lol! And I personally feels that the blue and actinic of T5 can really helps in bringing out the colors of the corals! Just to sharing the duration of my lightings. 2 x Actinic - 10hours 2 x Blue - 8hours 2 x White - 6hours Quote Link to comment
