its been set up for just under a week. any suggestions? the anemone is green tentacles with purple/pink tips, I'm not quite sure on the exact name of it, my clown sure loves it though

My suggestion would be take all of the livestock back and read some more~! Sorry it just seems no one pays any attention to all of the info out there anymore!

i actually had a professional set up my tank and is advising me on many of my decisions involving livestock, water treatment, etc. thanks for your input, but that doesn't really help me. and i got water that had been in a purification system for weeks before it ever touched my tank.(kinda cut out the whole cycle deal)

No offense but I think you have been scammed....I hope he didnt charge much!

P.s. Its not the water that causes a cycle! Like I said read some more and dont trust everyone!

well due to the fact that she takes care of my tank, doesn't make much sense for her to kill her own business. I'm not sure what has happened with you being scammed in the past, but you might want to have some faith for once, i do only have 1 fish btw, so it really isn't very full.

P.s. Try not to be afraid to trust people and be extremely pessimistic!

Sorry I am just grumpy...All I am saying is I think that your advisor is maybe misinformed. Get some more opinions on here and I think you will see that most agree that you are headed for trouble and I just dont want to see that happen to you.

you put this together in four days...is that correct? Did any of that LR or LS come from an "already Est. tank"? :^0......Fish Killer!!!!

What you actually need to focus on is how long the rock has been in an established system. It needs to cycle. You are guaranteed to have a cycle (whether big or small) and you don't want livestock in there when it happens. Who knows, maybe everything in there will survive your cycle, maybe it won't. If it does survive it will be extremely stressed and may not survive as long as it would have if you had just left the rock in to cycle. I agree with everyone. Get some other opinions. I think your advisor may have some old, outdated, or just incorrect information.

The biggest modo I have for this hobby is to do your own research and don't trust just one opinion. You can lose a lot of money by not listening to this advise.

wait, you have a tank in your home (assumption), that you have no idea how to take care of it in case tank lady kicks the bucket or goes out of business? Not very smart.

most of the people here know what they are talking about. Even though your water was in a purification system designed and operated by a higher power it doesn't make the cycle not happen. The rock is the main thing that cuases a cycle was that in the same amazing system of purification. FYI: Horrible term to use as it means your making something pure: RO/DI water is an example of this. If i were you i would definately pick up a book or look through the forums here for info on what your doing. Nothing should be done quickly in saltwater, 4 days is no exception or even a setup with 'cycled' water and sand as there is still the LR die-off which causes the cycle.

READ!+ Show this to tank lady.

yeah he is right... it should have been cycling for a couple of weeks or a month before you put livestock in there...

Sorry to say but it doesnt matter where your water or LR comes from it needs to cycle. It may have a quick cycle but 4 days is still too short to have a cycle. Listen to the people here they are smart and have a lot of experience. Take everything back for now get it put on hold or something then check all your params. Once the cycle is over wait another 2 weeks then slowly add your livestock and that means add one item every week or two. Dont just dump everything in. This is a hobby which tests patience.

Good luck to you

matty0206 is right ... you have been RIPPED!!! So, make sure the LFS does not charge you for replacing the dead items :) And you might want to start reading about how to setup and maintain a tank. Good luck. At this rate ... I see you not escaping cyano-bacteria :P unless you start reading about it and prevent it.

DrCooper, you might want to start a thread in a forum re your questions. There are tons of 12g owners out there that will be very willing to help you out and let you copy their "proven" setup.

The "professional" who's handling your system does not know what she's doing... this tank violates pretty much every basic rule of reef keeping and nothing in it will likely to live very long.

Hi Rocketsfan09:

Your comment "Try not to be afraid to trust people and be extremely pessimistic!" should go both ways. You are doubting the people here on this board who have seen everything. If you search the board you will see tons of questions from people who added stuff before the cycle ended and see their concerns at the bad things happening to them. Also the board owner listed under information wonderful articles as to why you have to do what you do.

We hope you are successful.

Not a good begining, and could lead to some disappointment, and lose of some really special animals lives. take it from someone who learned the hard way, it isn't fun. As far as the animals are concerned it is just wrong, and irresponsible and torture.

The sand bed alone tells you everything is going to fail, way too clean, too new. Poor fish and corals.
