RCHammer89 Posted December 24, 2007 I totally understand the fact that maybe he should have read up, and if he did then he is at fault. But it's just a common courtesy that everyone should have to not call someone an idiot. In this situation it's ignorance, no one knows his situation or his knowledge. Just because I have 9 posts doesn't mean I can't say what I want, am I supposed to think I'm inferior to everyone else? I read up everyday, I'm going to college for this, I have scholarships for the specific field of coral conservation and aquarium/marine sciences, I know I'm still young and have a TON to learn, but one day I'll make a living out of this. I'm not being rude, I just think it's flatout rude to call someone an idiot. Quote Link to comment
mskurdah Posted December 24, 2007 I would keep the clown and either the royal gramma or the firefish. I'm sure the store will take back the others. BTW: I tried three chromis in a 30 G with no other fish -- one quickly outgrew the others and killed the smallest one -- he started to turn on the other one and that's why I took them back to the LFS. If you keep the clown and either the royal gramma or the firefish they should get along. Unfortunately, very few LFSs seem to care enough to warn people. I've received so much bad advice from different stores. Quote Link to comment
scratch07 Posted December 24, 2007 rchammer im a marine bio major focusing on coral reef conservation also and i feel the exact same way you do. this site has people who are avid hobbyist and they know a lot about the hobby but people don't understand where this is gonna go. farming corals is going to be the only way to get them in the next ten years because sooner or later there will be a ban on taking corals from the ocean. so we will need all the help we can get. trust me i get just as upset as anyone when i see something like this. but like i said earlier we can save these fish because on this forum. but probably not now cause the user is no where to be found so they probably left the site and now will not get the advice they need. KOFP Posted December 24, 2007 I know I over reacted, my bad. But the thing is, people need to lots of research before they start up a tank, especially a saltwater tank. Everyone of us was a noob at some, just put yourself in their place...be constructive and help them out. Quote Link to comment
RCHammer89 Posted December 25, 2007 Exactly, everyone started out as a noob. Be constructive, that's all. Don't look down upon others because they are not a senior member, build them up. You shouldn't feel like it's a ballsy move to post a comment on here, you should state what you want as long as it's respectful. Quote Link to comment
Rehype Posted December 25, 2007 I think we can be way too judgmental without asking any questions. This person could have very well had this tank connected to a 30 gallon sump.Who knows?... Im not saying that this scenario is ideal but they were flamed without even a chance to understand what they may have done wrong. Quote Link to comment
Keila Posted December 25, 2007 Hello everyone, First I want to say "Merry Christmas" I want to thank you all for all your comments. As you can see I am new in this hobby. I try my best to take care of my tank, the last thing I want is to hurt my aquarium. I have this tank for about 8 months and until this day only one fish died. I suppose you are right with too many fish. I've returned most of the fish to the store "no refund" and only kept two. I must keep the clownfish because it's impossible to remove the anemone. "Clown-fish and anemone look happy together". The reason I sign-in this site is to get feed back. I will post a new picture soon..... Quote Link to comment

29guy Posted December 29, 2007 FIRST..I would like to thank "Scratch07" and "RCHammer89" for their words of encouragement to a beginner. Constructive criticism is supposed to be just that...constructive! Those on this site that "know all"... "Pheallox" and are calling people names..belittling them in a VERY public fasion are immature. Have we nat ALL made poor decisions? I work in the hobby and deal with it (people) all day. The ONLY way we are going to do anything to save our worlds reefs is through EDUCATION..NOT name-calling! SO...."Keila"..please educate yourself a bit..and NEVER quit! Quote Link to comment

scratch07 Posted January 3, 2008 Keila im glad to see that your still keeping your tank and that you have some thick skin. im also glad to see that you took the advice and removed some of the fish. i wish you all the best with your tank and like i said before you can always pm me with any questions. 29guy i work in the hobby to and i talk people out of making that "lets get a tank" situation all the time. until they have learned a little about the hobby. but i also help to teach them about the hobby. imo the biggest problem is there aren't enough reef keeping stores that really care. most are just trying to sell things. The Frog Posted January 6, 2008 It is a beautiful tank, but there are way too many fish in there. I may be new to the saltwater hobby too, but I strongly suggest that you take out the tang, tomato clown (Ocellaris or Percula is a better option if you must have a clown) and at least one (if not both) of the Chromis (Take out both if you plan to get a clown). Then, try to take out one more fish that you have left. If you do that, it should be fine. Love the Firefish, by the way. If ever you set up a saltwater tank again, I suggest to first add the Live Rock, fill it up with water, COUNT how many gallons you fill it up with (Round down if it isn't even) then put in fish whoes total adult fish length in inches equal the amount of gallons in the tank. (Say in a 15 gallon tank, you add 15 lbs of Live Rock. That 15 Gallon tank turns into an 11 gallon tank. (hypothetically, it's different every time.) You can then probably put in up to 11 inches of small fish in your tank.) (Don't get fish that get bigger than 4") If you do that, you shouldn't have anymore stocking problems. Quote Link to comment
The Frog Posted January 6, 2008 Oh, sorry, I posted it with just reading the first page of comments. Guess you have things sorted out now. Good job! Quote Link to comment
