brahm
I'm currently running a 30 gal, and I have an empty 5 gal tank. I was thinking next time I do a water change on my 30, to use 3-4 gallons of that water to start up my 5 gallon tank, (with some LR from the 30, and some "new" LS) would the 5 tank need to cycle since the majority of the water would have already been cycled? Thanks Link to comment
samthebigfish
i wouldnt think so, sence you have already established benificial bacteria. just my guess- Link to comment
bgoode
It would depend more on whether the LR and sand has been fully cured or not, since a majority of the beneficial bacteria is in the rock and sand. The water would help, but adding rock and sand from the established tank would help more. Link to comment
brahm
hmm ok, I can buy cured LR from my LFS right out of there Reef Tank, the only thing new would be the sand. Link to comment
bgoode
That would greatly reduce the cycle time, but still test the water and make sure its ok before adding anything. Link to comment
