jjohnson3
As the title says, my test kit was wrong! Ph was at 8.4 and Ammonia was at 0 the whole time! i decided to pick up a Red Sea test kit for saltwater. I performed a test with the Red Sea test kit and the API test kit. Heres what I got. PH API-8.1 RS-8.4 Ammonia API-.25 RS-0 I bought the API test kit last year. Could this have been the cause of it misreading? Thanks for any replies! Link to comment
vangvace
Possibly the API kit expired. iirc API test kits have an expiration date. Propagator talked about it awhile back. Link to comment
bdare
I would definitely not trust the Red Sea kit over the API... Link to comment

jamesnmandy
my API ammonia kit has never read zero, not even on water i know is zero....it always had a slight green tint to it, never pure yellow like the card says is zero, but i have also taken my water to the LFS and had them check using their kit, hagen i think, and it's always zero, also the nitrite API kit always has a trace reading, but with every other kit it reads zero.....so when using my API kit as long as it doesn't get over the lowest detectable level i dont worry, because they are off, actually worse than my old red sea kit....i know people will tell you API>Red Sea, but i dont know, i would say it's about a wash Link to comment
