TBone303
I have a 16 gallon tank with a case to red slime algae (cyano) and I would like to transfer my corals to my new 72 gallon tank but I'm worried about transfering the red slime algae to my new tank. Do I have to clear up the red slime algae (cyano) first before I make the transfer or dose it even matter Tbone303 Link to comment
freakaccident
The red slime is due to a problem with your water. If the other tank is healthy it shouldn't cause any problems. Link to comment
Raise
there are a few factors that cause cyano 1) ######ty skimming (most likely not a prob here) 2) old lights 3) ######ty water (check it out) 4) ######ty circulation I used red slime remover in my 55 and ive had NO probs or anything,a nd that ######e is gone! Masoch
PhosGuard from SeaChem also helps starve the cyano by removing phosphates. Well, at least it worked for me Link to comment
freakaccident
I have experimented and I think its all about the phosphates. I overfed on purpose and algae began to grow in two days. Crank skimmer up and use Phosguard and the algae was gone in two days. I basically did this for a few weeks just for fun and to see if there was a solid clear cut line between overfeeding and not overfeeding. I never figured it out. I currently overfeed so I can grow algae to feed my turbo snails until my big tank cycles and I can get it to blow up with algae. FYI-Turbos will eat nori faster than a tang will. Link to comment
