DIY LED DX12

Recommended Posts

I have a thread on my Pico Reef Jar and thought it was about time to start a thread on my DX12.

This tank started with stock lighting and I bought a nanotuners PC upgrade with moon light fix.

I still did not get the lighting I needed for the SPS frags. So I set up a DIY LED build using CREE X-PG and XR-E LEDs from RapidLED.

Below are the pics. Feel free to let me know what you think:

Currently running 4 NW, 4 CW, 6 RB, 2 Blue & 1 moon light in the center.

Blue and white are on separate drivers and the moon light is independent from the rest.

I removed the black from the back of the second chamber and added a JBJ refugium light. Cheato grows out of control and I have to trim once a month.

Here are some nicer shots I have. There is much more in the tank but need to work on getting better shots.

The rock is actually quite old and established.

I started with a Cube Masters tank in 2006. Worst tank ever!

After the lights on that tank took a crap I switched everything to the Nanocube.

The rocks are probably 5 years running now. Most of the coral I have added recently.

Over all I really like the tank but am ready for something bigger..

I have two ELN-60-48D drivers with the two color dimming kit from RapidLED.

The pictures I took had the white lights dimmed to about 20% and the blue to about 30%.

I can not say enough good things about Rapid, they were very helpful.

Thanks for looking!!

I have the NW & CW XP-Gs set at 1000mA

The RB and Blue XR-Es are set to 750mA

The one moon light has a separate 300mA driver.

This was probably the most fun project I have done on this tank.

I looked at your post and did not see any pictures of your lights. Or am I wrong?

Haha you are right, I have had a hard time uploading pictures and I gave up for a while but my girlfriend kathleen_c also on NR just got a DSLR so I am going to try to take some pictures and upload them all led set up fts frag pics.

How do you put your pictures in here?

First you need to upload the images to a site like flicker, Picasa or photo bucket.

Once you get the BB code (each site is a little different on how to find sometimes you can right click on the image and copy the image URL)

then click the insert image button when you are posting and past the link.

Hey look you are a rock star!

The image can be big..Flicker gives you an option to grab the BB code. You can grab a code for a small thumbnail all the way through a very large pic.

That is how I go the different sizes in my original post.

Not sure about Picasa
