Can LED stars butt up against one another safely?

Hello All,

I was playing around with my supplies yesterday. I now have almost everything I need. Just waiting for my soldering iron and solder to arrive.

I came up with a configuration like this. Will it work with the LEDs so close? Am I risking a short with the stars touching each other?

I noticed that the bottom of the stars is metal. Is it just the top that is neutral?

So, I need to avoid contacting the solder or bare wire with the bottom and/or the heatsink right?

Also, if I carefully run the coated wire in between the stars (it would probably be touching them and the heatsink), would it get too hot and melt the wire coating and cause a short? I'm guessing wire coating is built to handle heat from within, but I'm not sure about the outside.

there will not be enough heat to melt any plastic (except when you are soldering)

the entire star is neutral except for the marked +- pads and the front of the led

yes avoid any solder or wire on the heatsink , back/side of the star, and screws
