+1 I'm looking to get a tank soon, probably just like you back in 2009. Look forward to seeing how this one goes!

How does that ATO work? Get it from a DIY thread here?

You dont really have anything dying in there to create the bacteria needed.... ^^^ That is a lot of dry rock for sure

aw...how long do you think my cycle will be then?

every tank cycles differently so its tough to judge, i have a lot of experience in freshwater... my salt water cycle took ~2 weeks.. but i had 28lbs of live rock and no dry rock..

best thing to try to kick start it would be to get a bag of live sand and mix it in with the rest.. but it will take a while for the 'dry rock' to get stuff living on it

WEEK 2. still all 0 readings with 8.2 pH

BUT half my sand is slowly turning brown. and i got air bubbles on my live rock and underneath the sand bed.

CUC soon?

edit: well actually. i might have a tiny small reading on my nitrate. is that good?

I very much like your rock work, you have tons of usable surface! You did a nice clean job on the ATO too!

Your cycle with dry rock will probably take no less then a month maybe faster if you had some live rock to seed it. I'd toss some fish food or something in the tank and test it the next day to see if you have any ammonia readings. One thing you don't want to rush is the cycle make sure you move along slowly. And slowly add livestock when it's time so that the bacteria has time to catch up with higher load.

Sweet set up. What kind of tank is that? DIY? 20 long with trim removed?

Woops. Went back and saw the 15 gl.

Cool tank.

Yea 15 gallon long. these "standard" tanks were actually a PITA to find. out of the 4 pet stores I went to. only 1 of them regularly carry it. But I like the shape of it. not too tall. not too long.

thanks =)

So is this a stock or did you remove the top trim and add the weir?
