Interesting.

How do they prevent the mangrove from busting the box with it's root's?

I want to do a mangrove box now :)

Just like in a sump, you have to prune the roots... ;)

Where are the holes so that the water exchanges with the plant?

Like holes in the acrylic and mesh to prevent the substrate from getting into the tank?

Substrate is idiot proof,

crushed coral would work well.

I'd like one for the heck of it.

hmmmm... i wonder if this could be done in the over flow. its just a box, right? they probable have the water flow thur the bottom helping with the prevention of nastyness biulding up. keeping the sand arobic for the roots.

It’s easy to do, just follow these steps:

1. Cut a hole in the box

2. Put your seeds in that box

3. Let em grow from the box

I guess I'm lucky I live near a mangrove coastline. I've collected about 20 seed pods and they're mounted onto a floating styrofoam block. Right now, they've begun to sprout. All this in my sump tank.
