Nano Wave 9 gallon skimmer adjust?

Hi everyone,

I'm totally new to nano-reefs and I just purchased the Aqua Medic Nano-Wave 9 gallon tank. Can anyone tell me how I adjust the protein skimmer? right now it's pushing too much water into the cup.

Also, there's no fan in the hood. Anyone had trouble with the hood getting too hot?

Thanks a million - David

First off: :welcome:

You have joined the few who own NW9's -- I am one of them. There is a hood fan mod available from nanotuners, at a reasonable price. As far as the skimmer, first thing to do is close the input gate on the pump to the smallest opening you can, then, on the top side, where the filter for the venturi intake is, add a small length of airline tubing and a plastic valve. You can then tweak the amount of air getting mixed in the reaction chamber. Mind you, changes to the skimmer can take a bit of time to show up. I started out by closing off all air to the skimmer, then barely opening the valve just until bubbles formed, then tweaked from there.

At this point, however, I'm running only the 'fuge and a 1/2 unit of Purigen where the skimmer was. Other NW9 owners will chime in with other things they've done with this unit -- I'm still very happy with mine. :)

I just got a one of these skimmers from a friend to test but carp* I'm having a hell of a time adjusting it. Anyone else have more ideas or just junk it, it's brand new so no mods or anything.
