BC14G Cooling Fans

I upgraded last month to the NanoTuners 3.72 light upgrade. They were out of the "increased" fans and they shipped me their "standard" fans. They work great for keeping the temps down but they are a little loud and the tank is in my toddlers room.

Can you give suggestions on getting quiet fans that do a decent job of cooling? The fan size I am looking for is 50x50x10mm.

Thanks,

Chris

You don't need new fans, you need a new power supply to run your existing fans slower.

If you put 12V fans on a 12V power supply, they run full-out all the time. Check out my thread on the fan mod I did to my BC14 hood:

You can see how I wired my fans to a variable output power supply that lets me slow (and quiet) them down, but still lets me crank them if I need to.

Hey Kirin, thanks for the reply as you were typing I was reading your thread. It didn't come up when I did a search but I found it in the DIY. Where do you get this variable power supply at? Sorry if that is a noob question, but electrical and DIYs are pretty new to me. I know enough that I can install ceiling fans with ease so adding a variable power supply sounded easy enough in your well written thread. I just don't know where to get the hardware.

Thanks again Kirin,

Chris

I bought mine from Allied Electronics, but it's a special order item for them and you won't find it listed on their site, you'll have to call. I got this one because of it's 800mA rating, but if you're only doing 2 fans you can go with a 500mA unit, which are readily available at Radio Shack or Walmart. Look for the power supplies that come with a pack of different plugs and have a voltage selector switch. The switch is important, there are self-adjusting multi output power supplies out there that will just fun your fans all-out.

If you still want to replace the fans so that you don't have to worry about variable voltage setups, then check out frozencpu.com in the fans section.
