I am having the same problem, it says to only have the bubles to the top of the tube in the main body, but my water level is higher than that. All I get is water in the collectrion cup and the air valve is turned all the way down. Any suggestions?

They say sometimes chemicals in the water can affect the amount of bubbles formed and low salinity will produce ineffective bubbles aswell. Or perhaps there is no organic material there to skim, sounds crazy, but it is possible.

My experience has been good. If you getting clear water in the cup, your airflow is probably too high. My first two days were producing a large amount (dumped cup x2 daily) of very dark skimmate. Since then, my water has been crystal clear and I have only dumped the cup once (half full) since Sunday (3 days). If your airflow is adjusted right (bubbles just above rim without collection cup), my guess is there isn't anything to collect.
I got one and like it alot. Produced decent skimmate within 4 hours....
Another fan here. My first two days were very productive. It's calmed down since and my water is awesome.

just got mine, i let it run for an hour and checked it. it had water too, reason was that it was hitting the light cover. i pushed it back and have let it run again.

i got mine from big als? for 35$ plus 7$ shipping.

bad thing is that is big enough to block my heater in ch 1. so now the heater is in the main tank for now..

I kinda like this skimmer, I returned the SR3 b/c it cost way too much and produced nothing but bubbles in the main display. I think the SR3 is a nicely made skimmer, but the design could have been made better so as to avoid bubbles in the main display. The water that is returning from the skimmer can bypass the bubble filter completely and go un molested into the chamber 3. All they had to do was raise the level of that last chamber so that the water would have no choice but to go down and back up into the bubble filter.

Any how. I noticed that some ppl say the BioCube skimmer has clips that attach to the wall that seperates chamber 1 and 2. However, I see some models of the same skimmer having suction cups. Which model is newer and can you use the stock filter with the Biocube skimmer, not that I would, but I would like to have the option if I could.

Thanks

Has anyone put this in a 24G aquapod, my girlfriend's is in the front corner because I haven't messed with it enough to find a way to get it in the back chamber. Some pictures would be nice :D

I just ordered mine. I wonder if you can use any airstone instead of that wooden one. I used to stick an airstone in the 3rd chamber of my BC29 and it would actually act like a skimmer. The skimmate that that airstone produced would stick to the walls of the chamber. I figured something simple and inexpensive would be enough to do the trick in a small 29 gal tank with 2 to 3 fish.

hey guys and girls i think i know the prob, i set mine so the bubbles were just above the area of the collection cup which is wrong. it actually needs to be just above the reaction chamber, which is with the collection cup taken off. I just did this to mine as it had water in it again... hopefully this will help some people.

I ordered mine from petsolution, so returning it wont be too hard. I dont see why it would not work b/c running bubbles through water is how the water treatment plants do it. If you are not getting skimmate in the cup then I can only think of a couple of things causing it:

1. Height of skimmer correct?

2. Quality of bubbles (too small or too big)?

3. Chemicals in the water restricting the production of foam.

4. Salinity. Too low?

5. Bio load too small, no protein to skim.

That is why I decided to stick with a cheaper/smaller one. No sense in getting one that cost $175 bucks when I only have 3 fish in my BC 29 to begin with. Heck, one 20% water change would probably be enough to do the job. Even it it doesnt create skimmate, at least the water is getting contained aeration.

Hi all, I just orederd one of those skinners from OCeanic, and removed all the bioballs from my BC14. A couple questions.

1.Can someone tell me exaclty where the skimmer is installed and or post a pic if you have one?

2. After removing the balls there is a HUGE increase in noise as the water from C1 falls down about 6 inches to C2. Is the C2 the skimmer location? Do you remove the filter pad once you have the skimmer and put it in C1?

Considering filling C2 with LR rubble but am not sure what to do just yet.

Chamber 1.

I just filled the back chambers and raised the water level of the rear chambers, also place a filter pad right where the water enters C2.

Just got it today and will install tonight. Not sure about the AP24. It's size is designed to fit in first chamber of the BC14 or 29. That said, it should provide enough skimming for a 24g tank. Just need to figure out where to put it.

Ill let you know how well it works in a couple days.,

Another question though. Is thereany downside to removing the filter pad when installing the skimmer. I know the filter pad has a carbon/charcoal backbone. Does removing these lements require a supplement of some kind?
