mx5apex
Just got a nice new chalice and the next morning something chewed on it In my tank I have a acro crab and a zebra hermit crab. I also noticed my clown fish looking at the coral. Anyone know what would eat a chalice? I'll get pics tomorrow of the damage. Link to comment
altolamprologus
Large hermits are sometimes known to munch corals. Quarantine him in a breeder box or your sump and see if the chalice keeps getting eaten. The owner of my LFS found a 6 foot long bristle worm that had been eating chalices, skeleton and all, in a tank that had been set up for years. You never know, it could be one of those. But don't go and kill all your bristleworms. 99% of the ones we find in our tanks are beneficial. Start with the hermit and go from there. Link to comment
1fishmonger
^^^ Exactly what he said. Hermit crabs or eunicid worm. Hermit crabs more likely unless your tank has been established for quite some time. Link to comment

mx5apex
chalice is on a small rock. I'll try lifting it off the sandbed with some plexiglass and see what happens. Thanks for the help!! Link to comment
Veng
6 foot long bristle worm? Did you mean 6" long? 6 foot long one might give me nightmares..... Link to comment
Formula462
if it was 6 foot long and eating corals skeleton and all, it would have been a eunicid worm, not a bristle. sweet dreams veng Link to comment
ThatDude
Be cautious of amphipods. When I first introduced my chalice there was a large amphipod nibbling on it and living underneath it. Link to comment

He's an older guy that knows coral names but kind of lumps creepy crawlies into vague catagories. Doesn't make it any less creepy. It actually got donated to the academy of science Link to comment
mx5apex
Here's the damage. It has to be one of my crabs, I isolated the frag off the sandbed and no further damage has happened. affected-area by ashmorearts, on Flickr Link to comment
