I vote 7.5 cube (you already have every thing to set it up) since space is a major factor, the 7.5 has the smallest foot print. What is the reason for braking down the 3 gallon ? Not enough room or stocking wish list?

I won't be breaking down the 3 gallon for a while, but I will be moving eventually. My wife has finally agreed to let me have a tank at home after seeing how happy my one at work makes me. NYC is probably the most expensive place in the states for housing outside of parts of CA. After we move, we will most certainly have more room and I will be able to upgrade. It will be a several months, but I'm starting my research already.

I change my vote to the 20 long I thought that living space had a major factor in choosing tank size . But I have to say my favorite tank size is the 30 long its like a short 55 gallon.

Okay, I added your 20 long vote. Wierd, you can vote in your own poll.

And so it begins. I could still change, but this is my favorite for now.

25 Cube

The cake looking thing in the middle is a basic idea for my LR. I'd like a have a small overhang that fish could swim under. Perhaps it will be lower. It's a rough idea.

I voted for 20 long. For some reason I am not a huge fan of cubes. I also feel like lighting a 12 L might be a pain due to how shallow it is. I would not want a tank any shallower than my 5.5 g (10 inches) as even a 70 watt MH is pushing it as far as intensity goes for low light corals.

That would be a grate scape , you could secure it to a pvc stand with smaller pvc inside to allow you to turn it so you could have coral growing all the way around and turn it lazy susan style to enjoy .

Awesome idea! Though I'm not sure the coral would like that. I'm planning to make somewhat of a bouquet of corals. Something will stick out of the ledge on the outside layer (maybe some zoas, but only one or two types), other stuff will go in between, and something big and impressive will go up top. Perhaps something with lots of branches or tentacles. The bottom will probably be bare. I might attempt something azoo down there after a while if I end up having space. I really like having an open sandbed. Hense, the stack. I only put the clowns and star in there because I could find 3D models of them. In all likelihood, neither will end up in there. I'm thinking more along the lines of a mandarin dragonet. I figure if I can make the center hollow and keep a good pod population going, it should be okay. Also, ORA is starting to sell mandarins raised on frozen food. I figure it's only a matter of time before they're only sold like that. It is fun to watch them hunt though.

12 gallon I have one, nothing in it but I love it looks so much bigger than it actually is, or the 25 gallon cube but 12 would be my first choice

well hell, if you're leaving the city, get a damn 250.

That's too much aquarium for me. If I can't reach to the bottom of the tank and wrap my arms around it (you know, to give it a big hug once in a while jk), I don't want to mess with it. Also, 25 gallons is easier to clean up than 250 if the worst should happen. Remember, I only have 3 gallons now. This is a huge upgrade for me.

all i'm hearing are crybaby excuses. go big or go home!

Damn right!

oh wait...no I still only want a small tank.

I'm not from Texas. I work with microscopes. Big microscopes, but microscopes all the same.

Hell, I am from Texas and I still wouldn't want a huge tank. Like you said, if I have to climb a ladder and don a wetsuit to be able to work in it... no thanks! :P

Voted for the 20L because I'd love to see what you could do with the 'scape, but your diagram for the cube looks sweet too. I definitely think either of those two will give you a great deal more working room while still meeting NYC apartment constraints.

Also I think all us city-reefers are counting the days until we move into our own houses. I've already warned my boyfriend that the first thing we're getting is an RSM.
