Muges
A week and a half into my cycle, when is it safe to put snails/crabs in? Tank has live rock and hitchhikers seem fine in there. Link to comment
brandon429
If the rock is truly live it will have color and growth indicators on the surface and like you mentioned hitchhikers That kind of rock is as ready within five mins after you put it in the tank as it will be 3000 days later, live rock doesn't have to cycle sounds like its ready for anything. Pics would be neat to see The reef I have now that's 11 yrs old used live rock and corals from the lfs all set up the same day skip cycle. It was solid purple coralline lr Link to comment
Muges
There are all sorts of things coming out. I've removed 4 crabs already but plenty of life throughout my tank. Here is a current pic. Link to comment
brandon429
Excellent live rock it meets every criteria for skip cycle rock. The bacteria it shows up with are just as able first day as years from now, this reef is a go full-on. We did six pages here on exactly your kind of live rock http://reef2reef.com/threads/new-tank-cycling-tank-bacteria-and-cocktail-shrimp-live-rock-no-shrimp.214618/ We did that so people won't go dosing ammonia to it Link to comment
Clown79
Nice aquascape and rock. Liverock cycles very quickly if you have a cycle at all. The only 100% way of knowing is testing ammonia. When there is no ammonia present, its safe to add them. I agree with Brandon, dosing ammonia to liverock tanks is not a good idea Link to comment
Muges
Thanks for that article Brandon. That was a massive help Link to comment
