Hi Everyone,

Any one have any experience with these guys? I added him along with a McCoskers into my 57g a few weeks ago, and then the McCosker stopped eating, even though he was healthy when i got him. I was speaking with someone at my LFS and said that normally they don't do well with other wrasses, although everything i've read about them says they should be model citizens. Anyone have any experience with them and know what i can and cannot mix with them?

TL;DR: Solar Wrasse is being a douche, what can/can't i put with him.

I would check a compatability chart like liveaquaria.com before adding fish together.

It shows caution when mixing wrasse together. Most fish don't do well with the same species or even fish that look similar, even peaceful fish.

i checked that but all fish have their exceptions. I was told fairy wrasse can go with other types of wrasse. i was hoping to be able to keep a Solar, Coris and Christmas together, looks like thats a dudd lol

If you want to keep wrasses together, you need a bigger tank. I had a solar, mccosker's, yellow sided and african cleaner all in my 85. But I wouldn't put them in a short tank together. The fairy wrasses (the solar and yellow sided) can and will bully the flasher wrasse. But my tank was big enough (4 ft long) to discourage any over the top behavior.

So, the problem is your tank is too small to have additional wrasses with a fairy wrasse.

You can put in anything you want, they're generally good as long as you're not mixing similar body styled fish (like another wrasse).

Thanks Ikoechle. Do you have any recommendations as to what i can put in for a 36"L?

I have a 36" long 20gal tank and have a Salon Fairy Wrasse, clown, yellow assessor and an orchid dottyback. All get along fine with the exception of the clown bullying the assessor once in a while. The Wrasse doesn't pay attention to any of them and is a couple inches bigger

You can put in a dwarf angel if you're looking something unique. The scope of the question is really really big lol.

haha, it really is. i basically just want something that wont nip my corals, adds color and uses the water column to fill in where my corals aren't. oh and something my Solar wont destroy on site
