Sup planted lovers, a new light has hit kickstarter and I'm just putting it here because it looks so sexy. Similar in look to ADA Aquasky but with adjustable spectrum.

The $179 price of the 60cm light is not bad at all and it looks to be somewhat strong at 69W. Plus it's using dome optics like radion gen4. I am digging the color rendering in the video though for plants.

I think this a new revision or something so the price could be lower. It looks identical but $179 to $500 is a huge price difference.

Well it will only be $179 for Earlybird Kickstarter pledges. The actual retail cost is described in the Kickstarter at $399 for the small one.

The larger unit is $549 Retail according to the Kickstarter.

Makes me wonder what the point of the Kickstarter is. Is it to help expand the market or did the company run out of money to make more lights?

Marketing. Kickstarter draws some attention and its a cheap publicity platform :)

Is it really practical for a fixture like this to be able to produce good spectrums of light for both saltwater and planted tanks? I'm sure it's easier for a manufacturer to just produce one model, but common wisdom is that many products designed to do do multiple things wind up being bad at all of them. I like the diffuser design of the light and the form factor is nice, but the listed market price would make me look for something purpose built for either a FW or SW application.

Yeah that's why I posted it for planted folk as from the looks of it the design was really mean for freshwater first. I would be very suspect to use it for salt.

Given the pretty decent options planted tanks have for much cheaper I imagine this will be one of those lights that gets purchased for form factor primarily.

At the end of the day I have to admit that the pendant version is darn sexy.
