Tunze or jebao

Wanting to upgrade my powerheads and debating on going with either a Tunze Nanostream or Jebao SW-2.

Theres nothing wrong with my sicce but I'd like something controllable and smaller in size.

Any advice or comments would be great.

I have had a Jebao WP10 and a Jebao DCT-4000 for over a year now and am pleased with both. They run quietly, and do what they need to do. However, when taking a gamble with something so much cheaper, you are always taking a risk. I clean my Jebao pumps weekly, as the parts are definitely not built as well as other name brands on the market, and I feel that preventing build up will help counter this.

The most important thing to remember, is you get what you pay for. Jebao doesn't look as nice as other pumps, the tech support is non-existent, the control options aren't advanced, and eventually they will break (as will all things).

With all that being said, Jebao pumps will get the job done and definitely are great when working on a budget, I have no complaints with mine so far (knock on wood).

Rust! Oh my thats not good at all.

I've always used Hydors and sicces with no issue. Although when i contacted hydor, i have never received a response so I'd say customer service sucks for them.

I will definitely think about this.

I use Ecotech now and have no complaints, and have had several Tunze in the past also with no issues. My Jebao RW4 worked, but I think it had a fault and the circuit breaker would trip periodically. I never specifically tested it, but the breaker hasn't tripped a single time since I threw the Jebao out.

Ecotech Pumps are the ONLY powerhead ill ever use.

For what its worth, this was my tunze pump:

yup, rust...

Did you ever show that picture to Roger from Tunze? Their CS is top notch and the magnets themselves are made from ceramic so they cannot rust. More often than not it's people running GFO and the magnet will attract small particles to the magnet or pick up something else that will in turn rust. There is the odd occassion that the backplate of the magnet gets breached and exposes the iron plate that the magnets sit into, but again, contacting Tunze in that situation will receive a very prompt response and more than likely replacement magnet from Tunze.

I run ecotechs currently as well, and there are plenty of issues with them rusting also.

Yeah, I would choose the Tunze pump over the Jebao every day of the week and twice on Sundays, and it is not even close. I have Tunze pumps in use now that are several years old, and zero issues, but both Jebaos I tried died in under a year, even with constant cleaning...

Thank you so much for all the advice.

Thats my main concern about jebao. I've heard not so great things about the length in which they last.

I was thinking of the tunze nanostream 6020 or 6040. Its small and I know Tunze is a good company.

I currently use sicce and hydor but would prefer smaller and something with control

Use to run two RW4's via apex, but now run two Tunze 6040's and absolutely love them. They'll be making the trip to my 60g shallow upgrade soon. The Jebao's needed cleaning every month or the flow slowed down drastically. Tunze is top notch.

Tunze and Ecotech are price gougers, esp Ecotech. Everyone and their dogs knew this. Jebao WpRW will save you the extra money you can spend on a doser, lighting, etc.

I decided on the jebao. I had 2 tanks to upgrade powerheads, i got 2 jebao for the same as 1 tunze.

I have no issue cleaning them monthly, i do that already to keep the powerheads working at their best.
