Aquamaxx Nemolight issues

Does anybody have this light that would like to offer some advice? I decided to try something new and got my LFS to order this light in for me. I can't get the it do what I want. I've had it for a week now, everyday trying to mess with the setting to get it to do what I want.

One day it randomly turned on at 3 am so I turned it off when I woke up at 9 that morning it was on again!

Today at 9 pm the light went all white, the blues turned off. For 2 hours then randomly for 2 minutes at 11 the blues came on then off again back to all white.

I have no idea what to think, is the light just broken? I can read and follow instructions well. I called marine depot for assistance all they did was read the same instructions I have and still the cycle didn't work how it should have.

To anyone who has this light, is there some sort of trick I'm not getting ? Or suggestions ?

You can also reset the program by holding channel for Three seconds and getting a long beep. Plug the light in at the time you want the program to start. I'll dig up the programming steps we discussed on another forum.

You need to reset it.

You also need to set the program at the hr you want it to start. So if you want it to start at 9am, thats when you set up the program, at 9am.

Its a fussy light to set up the program but its a nice light once you get it going.

Instructions put together on AquariumLife Forum

Nemo light instructions.
* Programme the light at the time you want it to come on as there is no adjustable clock in the light*
1: Plug light into socket and turn power on. Light will come on.
2: Press 12H button.
3: Use the minus or plus button to raise or lower the amount of hours the light is on. Each push of the button adjusts the light by 1 hour. Light is factory set for 12 hours so if you push the “-“ button 6 times it will reduce the duration to six hours that the light is on for.

Day light intensity: Light is preset to 100% blue and 100% white but can be changed as per below.
1: Press the “Channel button to select the white channel and use the “+” or “-“ button to raise or lower the intensity. Each time you press the button it will change by 5% . (Example: Press the - button 6 times to lower it 30% to give a 70% output from the light) As you do this the light will change.
2: Press the “Channel button to select the blue channel and use the “+” or “-“ button to raise or lower the intensity. Each time you press the button it will change by 5% . (Example: Press the - button 6 times to lower it 30% to give a 70% output from the light) As you do this the light will change.

Night light intensity: Light is preset to have 5% blue and 0% white nightlight but can be changed as per below.
1: Press the 12H button for 3 seconds till you hear a continuous sound.
2: Press the “Channel button to select the white channel and use the “+” or “-“ button to raise or lower the intensity. Each time you press the button it will change by 5%. As you do this the light will change.
3: Press the “Channel button to select the blue channel and use the “+” or “-“ button to raise or lower the intensity. Each time you press the button it will change by 5% . As you do this the light will change.

Saving settings:
1: Press the Thunderstorm button and the light will flash 5 times then carry on working or just wait 15 seconds and settings will be saved automatically.

Program Reset

Hold Channel button down for 3 seconds for a long beep

If none of these suggestions work, then your answer could be in a faulty control board. I know for a fact that these boards are prone to going toast. The new aquamaxx ones may have been revised but don't quote me on that.

Hello,

I'm also having a problem with Sunrise / Sunset.  As far as I can understand, my light is working as intended, EXCEPT the sunrise and sunset give the full (daytime setting) of WHITE lights instead of the blue setting.

1) IMO the sunrise / sunset should ONLY be blue, and

2) should be blue with a lower setting that peak daytime.

(I use the blues at 100% and whites at 35-40% during daytime).

Thoughts?

IE as it is, I cannot use the sunrise/ sunset feature.

I didn't feel like fussing with this light because I heard a bunch of stories about it being a pain in the ass.  I put mine on a standard plug

in light timer, it comes on at 8 and goes off at 6. I haven't had the patience to do all the other stuff with this light but it works for me.

Mine has had no issues, my hubby takes care of the set up.

Sunrise is only blue. So something went wrong with setting it up.

resetting it and starting your program from scratch is best.

There are videos on it and  how to program it.

There is also a thread with sponsor support I believe it was with marine depot

I figured it out.  It turns out that while you're setting the sunrise/sunset (1 hour, 2 hours etc) you can (and must) also set the channels.  So you can in fact have blue and white a low levels..  That is NOT detailed in the instructions and not obvious from programming because the light does NOT show you what you're doing with brightness..  just counting number of beeps from 0%  so I set mine to 2 beeps (10% white) and 6 beeps (25% blue).

Today I will test the light running the new program.

Thanks though

That's how they kept the light affordable.

If it had the programming ability of the other lights, it would cost more.

I spoke too soon.  Although I did indeed get the sunrise / sunset to be BLUE instead of WHITE.  there is absolutely NO correlation to what I program the timer to do to the actual performance..

For example, If I set the Time Mode on at noon then press " - " 6 times, i'd expect that the main light period would last for 6 hours beginning at noon. Then if I set a 1 hour sunrise / sunset (as instructed). I'd expect it to turn on blue at 11am, full at noon till six, then blue till 7 then the moonlight program..

NOPE!.

If I program it as above, it shuts the main light period at 10pm then the sunset till midnight or 1am then back on again at 9am.  NONE OF IT MAKES SENSE..  does ANYONE here have this light working?

If you do that, does it remember the brightness settings or go to max bright when it comes back on?

It turns off and on at whatever I set it on. I have it turned all the way up blues and whites, it shuts off like that and comes on like that. If I adjust it during the day - which I don’t it would stay where ever I left it.

Mine is set up blues only ramp up for an hr. Then my blues are at 80% and whites 20%, then 1 hr blue only ramp down.

It doesn't change once it's set unless you have a power outage

I have the light working where I think it's ok from a timer and brightness perspective.  I question the overall quality of color / light though.  Not sure the corals get what they need compared with other types of light or more sophisticated LED.

I've had corals under it for 2 yrs. All have grown, I've had to frag them.

I've bleached a frogspawn, so the light is strong enough.

Lighting is very important but 15yrs ago people grew corals under compact fluorescent and vho's. Not the best light source with no programmability.

Led lights are very powerful.

Higher end fixtures have 3 watt diodes whereas aquamaxx has 1 watt but that's why there are more leds.

Setting lighting to corals needs is important but you can have a very successful reef without owning brand name expensive fixtures.

There are too many factors to coral growth.
