Zo00ks
Hi All, So after a break from saltwater tanks, I decided to get back into the hobby on a much smaller scale. I've had several tanks in the past from 80 -160 gallon tanks. But its a whole different ball game with this smaller tank. I had some help/ advice from several users on this site when I first posted in the New Guy forums. So im gonna make a build thread to document and share whats been done thus far with the 5 gallon. My plan is to stock it with SPS, sticking to the easier more tolerable species Montis, Birds of paradise seriatopora, Millis, and select acros. The plan is by no means set in stone, Just my vision for the tank. It currently a bare bottom tank and bone stock. The tank is currently cycling its at 1 week mark as of today. Heres some pics! Zo00ks
Just ordered a Jebao pp4, like the fact that i can control it. I've read there are a couple ways to reduce the power so ill test that out. My light I'm still on the fence about. The nanobox mini(tide) whichever the new name is looks amazing, but i also like the kessil 160. Im open to suggestions! just got a seaside aquatics ato and have started to build a media box. I figure I've got some time to think about the next step. But any input will be great input! Link to comment

Ramp up, down, thunderstorm, clouds, all the options you want. Comes with gooseneck mount. Not sure what the Evo 5 is like so cant say whether it fits or not. Zo00ks
Theres a mount on the back of the Evo V for the stock light. Was wondering if it could use the same mount point? I also have the start of my media box should be done today just gotta let the adhesive cure! Link to comment

FlamingPrawn
I'll second or third or fourth the mini tide. You'll need to come up with a creative way to get it to mount. or maybe dave the evil genius can help you The stupid stock Evo 5 light is different than the evo 12. And sadly that plastic piece isn't going to come off the 5 easily :/ Link to comment
Reefkid88
I did not. I actually had a 500mA power supply laying around and just make sure the polarity match and you'll be good. Some people had theirs fry,but Ive been using mine for over a year and not a single issue. Im thinking about getting a SW-2 Jebao just released. Supposedly its the size of a golf ball. I have a spec v and am seriously considering an Evo 12 for a future upgrade. Amazing looking tank BTW! Thanks! I love the dimension on the Evo 12. It's basically the Spec V / Evo 5 but much wider so bigger back chamber and more room for aquascape. Link to comment
Zo00ks
Tank Update- Added the Jebao pp4 w/ a 12v power supply picked one up from radio shack, there was way to much flow with the 24v supply. Swapped the stock return pump with the Aqueon Aq600 Got my ATO hooked up, seems to be functioning thus far Added 4 hermit crabs, my ammonia and nitrate has been a 0 for over 4 days the rock was cured and no sand made for a fast cycle but I plan to watch it til the weekend just to make sure before i add a fish Changed the aquascape i pulled out one of the larger pieces to rearrange and it fell off the table and busted in half that made the quick fix another 2 hour endeavor Link to comment
MedievalITGuy
Sad that the rock broke, but I'm liking the new aquascape. Link to comment
Zo00ks
Well i added 4 hermit crabs and the ammonia spiked up! its at .5 ppm, Nitrates are reading 0, Hopefully the hermits can pull thru til this passes. Should I do a water change? Im waiting for the PH tester to show up soon as that arrives ill have that parameter as well Link to comment
