darkdancer333
I just upgraded to Steves LED in my RED SEA 130d I have notice a huge increase in the algae, especially in the coral sand. It's stringy lol Steves LED recommended 1800 channel 1 blue and 1800 channel 2 white. That is running about 45 % At my reef store he told me to run the blue at 90-100% with the white off. I have been running like 90-10% I am trying to find a happy medium and am open to suggestions I run 60 minutes sunrise and sunset on each end, The lights are on day for 10 hours not including sunrise and sunset. Horerczy
Lower the photoperiod and increase the duration for sunrise and sunset. Don't worry so much about the white/blue ratio. Find a color balance you like then make sure the the total output of both is to the corals liking. (I.e. if you like the whites at 2700 and the blues at 4096 but need to dim it to 33% for the coral divide both by 3 to get 900 whites and 1365 blues) Check nutrient levels as well. Maybe put some fresh filter media in if it hasn't been changed recently. Waging the war on algae at multiple fronts helps control it good. Link to comment
