fishguy122
Hi guys, today I got my first SW inverts in my 5g tank (a sexy shrimp and turbo snail). My water was fine (0 amm, >0 nitrites and 0.2 nitrates). After drip acclimating them for an hour, I added them into the tank. Thhe shrimp was rather skittish and was almost pressed against the front wall of the tank. Every so often it has these jolts, almost like spasms. The shrimp has since moved up and down the glass, eating a fair amount of algae that's accumulated there (a good sign?). Does the shrimp have a problem or is it simply it being a bit scared? Edit- after doing some googling I found that they like a ph between 8.1-8.4. The ph of my tank was 7.8, is this too much if a difference for it? Link to comment
Clown79
Ph changes throughout the day with photosynthesis. Depending on the hr will depend on ph. Ph and alkalinity work together. If you have normal alk levels than ph should be fine. How long did the tank cycle before adding livestock? Have you tested the tank since adding them? Link to comment
fishguy122
The tank has been cycling close to 2 months prior to adding the inverts. I haven't done a test yet but I'll do one asap. Ill do a bit more research into the all/ph relationship Link to comment
fishguy122
Good news-both shrimp and snail are alive and well today! Link to comment
Clown79
Good. Most likely just stress from moving homes Link to comment
