jshev
Ok, I have been using a 26 year old glass thermometer. It just bobs up and down in the water and tells you what your temperature and salinity are. You probably know the one. Because of its age Ive never trusted it. I purchased a LCD digital little thermometer from amazon for five buck. The digital says my water is 10 degrees warmer than what the glass one says. The digital says my water is 81 but I havent had my heater on since this morning and it feels cool to touch. Which should I trust? Should I purchase a different one? Link to comment
evilc66
Glass thermometers are generally more accurate unless the electronic one has been properly calibrated. At $5, I highly doubt yours has. Considering the age of the old glass thermometer, it might be time to get a new one. They aren't expensive, and are alcohol based. Without seeing yours, or you telling me otherwise, it's possible yours is still a mercury thermometer, and really shouldn't be in the tank. Link to comment
Astinus
U can Take a Glass of Crushed Ice and add some water to it....stir, let sit a few seconds. Place the Probe in the glass and wait for several minutes. Temp should be 32(F) or may get to 30 (F) Link to comment

Astinus
Your Welcome. I was a Cook and we used Thermometers all the time. We calibrated them using that method. Link to comment
