Lprobably a duplicate thread but i just want to know if petco frags are ok to bu. I saw some interesting frag that caught my attention. The only thing that hold me off is the live rock in the next tank to it. It has some aptasia big ones so i suddenly hold off to it. Will that aptasia next door will affect those frags. And also has somebody bought a peppermint shrimp from them because i need one due to a little hitchicker that i just discovered after two weeks. Im still a rookie.

Petcos can be hit or miss and aiptasia is everywhere - it is just something you always have to keep an eye on. If the tank looks clean other than the aiptasia, I wouldn't worry. Just make sure you dip the coral. If there's a lot of cyano in the tank or anything that looks like dinos, I would stay away.

Not sure about the peppermint. I guess again, it goes to how it looks - does it look healthy? Do the tanks look good? Are the other livestock healthy?

and welcome to NR!

I've gotten a couple great deals on corals at Petco when I was stopping in to get dog treats. A $10 blasto wellsi and $12 toadstool.

If their fish has disease, it could be brought in on the frag FYI. I have boughten from them but I always bought the coral when it arrived and still in the bag or I QT the coral for several weeks.

Aptasia wouldn't be my concern as it is easy enough to deal with. Ich, ect would be a huge pain though.

Bought 2 marine items from them, my yellowtail damsel and a small toadstool... Both are thriving and the damsel is goin on 2 years

But they were looking healthy, it really depends on the tank it comes from

all their tanks are plumbed together. i have bought a few fish from them and had the worst experience.. their fish gave my tank velvet and killed every single fish I had.

Thanks guys for the reply. I guess its all about how clean the livestock altogether. The guy who works there kinda know what he is doin. But i dont want to get fooled by just like that. The reason is my lfs dont carry peppermint shrimp and his hours is not so convenient to me. Thats why i when i saw petco's frag i was supposed to roll my dice but their tank is somewhat not that well light. A little bit on a reddish coraline color so i just stop myself. They have candy cane and some organ pipe coral.

only decent tank at my petco is the coral system. All it has is a tomini tang. Looks like a75 lagoon. It has a vertex skimmer a decent sized sump, nice pumps and an ati 8 bulb t5 fixture
